Everyone, it’s the substitute! Time to skip class!

    • sharculese

Jonathan LaPaglia was on this episode?

      • turgid_legume

Jeff surely has a clause in his contract that forbids CBS from showing other Survivor hosts with more arm veins than him.

        Also, someone was voted off.

    • Hornacek

We should have turned all our desks around to face the back.

  • the sky is falling

Let’s go Dave! find that idol you glorious neurotic mess!

    • the sky is falling

      BOOM!

    • Alycia Swift

I want him to keep finding them.

  • Mike Hirsch

So…trying to help Jessica is worth more to her than ACTUALLY helping Jessica. Got it.

    • Alkanarra

Hey, Mike? Remember earlier today when I was explaining to you how I thought CeCe was 100% safe tonight? Remember my brilliant prescience?

      Sigh…

      • corndogshuffle

I thought it seemed too easy before the episode started, but when she got to talk less than three minutes into the episode I looked at my dad and said “yeah, she’s gone”. I’m not always right, but when I’m right I’m right!

      • Mike Hirsch

I still like your theory behind it all.

      • Purplerockmatt

5 person tribe is way too small to focus on taking out threats. You need to avoid tribal at this point

        • sharculese

Yup. When they were at tribal I kept thinking “if you guys do anything except vote out CeCe or David you deserve to lose.”

    • Diego Armando

Jessica may not make the best decisions.

      • turgid_legume

Maybe she was going for the Ken nuzzle.

    • indescribable hat

She needed to fix things with Ken. David was still on her side in the vote. Besides, after the swap her relationship with Ken is more important, so we may just not have seen her talking to David because it wouldn’t pay off.

  • prettyboyprobst

Just to let you know, there’s no entry on the front page for the liveblog, again.

    • Sylvisual

      I’m seeing it…

      • Alkanarra

It was missing initially. Which frankly would have been an entertaining season narrative: Purple Rock versus its own front page.

*Werner Herzog voiceover* A man wrestles with an HTML element that he neither knows nor understands. Inside, he is broken.

      • prettyboyprobst

Yeah, I can see it now.

    • Hornacek

      The site is rigged!

  • the sky is falling

Calling it now, Dave Zeke Michelle Ken super alliance. I will stop competing with live log now. 🙂

  • the sky is falling

Dave dodged a bullet, I was nervous, now it’s time to watch America burn, ugh.

  • Black Dynamite

    I love Michaela!!!

    • Oh my gosh, yes. She got some good personal content and the ability to step up in the tribe unlike the rest of her former tribe. She is also with two Gen Xers who appreciate that quality.

    • Mike Hirsch

She’s kind of off in her own subplot, unrelated to whatever else is going on in each episode, like Daenerys Targaryen.

    • gouis

I know everyone liked Cydney (I did too!) but Michaela is like upgraded Cydney.

      • You shut your whore mouth! She has not reached Cydney levels of greatness yet.

        • gouis

She has less one liners, but is more well rounded.

          • corndogshuffle

I’m with gouis on this one.

          • gouis

I got the condog on my side. NOTHING CAN STOP ME NOW

          • corndogshuffle

Always two there are. No more. No less. A master… and an apprentice.

          • gouis

So we’re the Sith? Gouis and a corndog? WHO’S THE MASTER?!!?

          • corndogshuffle

Rule of Two. We are Sith!

I’d say you’re the master, as I’m a Millennial and you’re a Gen X. But don’t worry. I won’t betray you until I’ve found an apprentice of my own.

          • Saturday Night Palsy

That may be the nerdiest post I have seen on this site. Bravo!

          • Indeed. And that’s a pretty high bar.

          • corndogshuffle

I will wear this like a badge of honor. For real though.

          • Violina23

The master is whoever has the high ground? Because… reasons?

          • Admittedly, Cydney had more Tribal Councils/shitter people to deal with. Michaela only had Figgy and Taylor.

          • SpicyMayoJaySimpson

More well rounded in what way? Not to argue that she isn’t, I just don’t see it.

      • Black Dynamite

        Cydney is a goddamn queen.

        • Violina23

That she is. Michaela is a warrior princess

      • andythesaint

Your ideas intrigue me and I’d like to subscribe to your newsletter.

    • I’m totally on board (though I expected I would be since her preseason press). She’s a game changer.

      • I thought she was a fan favorite…or am I thinking of someone else?

      • Saturday Night Palsy

That better not be a spoiler!

        • Purple Rock Emma

Ugh, if it is that’s the one I didn’t know.

          • Purplerockmatt

            me too. Thanks OJohn-a

        • @DaltonRoss @Colossocorp wow i really am a game changer.— Stephen Fishbach (@stephenfishbach) October 20, 2016

    • Ms_Woozah

SAME. Super intrigued by her whole plot today, and hope it bodes well for her future in the game.

    • Michaela wears her emotions on her sleeve. Then she wipes that sleeve on her face and wears her emotions there instead.

  • gouis

It’s almost like we’re finding out this year that most white Americans are racist or something.

    • Mike Hirsch

Wait, that probably shouldn’t be liked.

    • DrVanNostrand

I’m watching the debate right now!!

      • gouis

No, don’t! That’s what he wants you to do.

        • Hornacek

We have traced the signal! The debate is coming from inside the house! Get out of the house!

          • Dezbot

I chose to watch my Dodgers, which was less stressful than the debate.

      • prettyboyprobst

Anderson Cooper just won the post debate spin:

Van Jones: You can’t polish this turd!
AC: Technically, you can’t polish any turd.

        • Violina23

Pretty sure there was a Mythbusters on polishing turds…

        • DrVanNostrand

I don’t know, reddit or Sucks or someone has been furiously trying to polish the fuck out of Nicaragua. Actually, maybe that proves Anderson’s point.

          • corndogshuffle

Reddit really loves the train wreck seasons and I just don’t get it. It’s something about the “characters” from those seasons, I guess.

      • corndogshuffle

        I’m sorry.

      • Kent McK

        So brutal.

      • Alycia Swift

I watched the first two and was physically ill. First time ever I was glad to work late to almost 11 then drive home.

        • Diego Armando

I dropped out of the second after 15 minutes to watch Westworld. No regrets.

    • Hornacek

      SAD!

  • Man, Hannah has gone nearly invisble…which could be a good thing.

    (Sees the NTOS)
Oh, dear. She really is the next Aubry.

    • corndogshuffle

I mean, she could actually be about to die. That makes sense.

      • But she seemed to be joking about it, so I don’t know… She is on Angkor, right?

        • corndogshuffle

Sometimes it’s hard for me to tell with her… she seems so goofily earnest (is that a combination of words that makes sense?) that I’m not sure if she could or would joke in that scenario. There’s definitely a 50/50 chance you’re right though.

Also, I’m pretty sure she is on Angkor because I don’t recall seeing her on Millennials or Gen X. So she must be on Angkor.

  • Also, does Jeff think that the audience would be in love with the Figgy/Taylor coupling? I think he sees a new Romber there.

    • DrVanNostrand

Figgy/Taylor make Romber look like Nobel laureates.

      • Hey, at least Romber could play the game. These two just got extremely lucky twice…and before anyone else says it, phrasing.

      • gouis

I think Figgy is at least self-aware. Sure she’s kind of a bitchy hot girl, but she at least speaks in complete sentences.

Taylor is such a dumb fuck though.

        • DrVanNostrand

That’s kind of my point. The smarter of the two is dumber than either of Romber. And the dumb one makes Jason Siska look clever.

          • gouis

I’m not willing to say Amber is significantly better at Survivor (or smarter in general) than Figgy is at this point.

          • I don’t know if I can get on board with that because of the fact that Survivor was still so new when Amber played. However, she did stay loyal to a disloyal alliance, so that’s pretty bad.

          • DrVanNostrand

I am. Amber isn’t an all time great, but she was fairly clever in All Stars, and I’m far from saying that about Figgy.

(Unless you’re talking about Australia Amber, because she was worthless there)

          • To be fair though, that was her second time playing. Comparing AO Amber to Figgy, they’re about even.

          • Mike Hirsch

She was pretty shrewd in Amazing Race as well.

          • I definitely watched their first season, but I don’t remember anything besides Joyce shaving her head and obviously the winner.

        • Kemper Boyd

I love you Gouis, you usually articulate my exact feelings and this time is no different. He is an annoying dumb fuck who will one day be that old guy who hangs around young people telling stories about his narly adventures and they will all hate him.

      • sharculese

Nobody named Robert could ever win the Nobel Prize!

        • Hornacek

          Parole granted!

    • corndogshuffle

I’m going to love seeing those two get bounced for being obnoxious. Preferably Taylor goes first.

      • I bet they go after Figgy first because Figgy is the more intelligent one with the clearer connections (to Michelle). They may need Taylor for physical challenges.

        • corndogshuffle

As much as I’d prefer for it to be Taylor, I have to agree with you. She is the one of the pair who actually has potential to really impact the game. Most of my reasoning for preferring Figgy is selfish (aka Outcast League). Other than that, whatever.

          • Diego Armando

Me too, I need her to supplement Zeke.

          • corndogshuffle

This episode made me really scared for my Outcast team. Either David or Figgy going home next week wouldn’t surprise me even a little bit. I hope for both of us that Figgy continues to skate along, because I think David has better plot armor than she does.

          • Kent McK

Seems like David is going to be around for awhile. Figgy on the other hand…

          • corndogshuffle

Agreed. I’d like for both to stay alive because I don’t think either will be winning this game, so I need to pile up the points by just keeping my team alive. I can’t tell if we’re being strung along that Faylor will be voted out soon, but I have to feel like at least one is a pre merge boot and probably Figgy will be the victim.

          • Alycia Swift

Ditto. But each week I expect to lose Figgy.

          • Diego Armando

David will likely use his idol if they lose. Figgy’s only hope is Taylor getting targeted as an immunity threat.

        • indescribable hat

That’s what I was counting on when I put Taylor in my pick-4! I think Figgy will get clipped and then he’ll never look like a threat again.

        • Kemper Boyd

          also Figgy is woman.

        • sharculese

Being the more intelligent member of Faylor is like being the warmest part of Antarctica.

  • DrVanNostrand

Just to comment on the 3 tribe split. I think the way they did it works pretty well. We’ve had enough time to get to know the players, they’ve had enough time to get to know each other, and the tribe on the new beach could really use an extra member.

    • I am going to slightly disagree with you. I think Ika Bula aka Angkor got the short end of the stick in regards of character development. Half of that group didn’t speak at all it seemed like.

    • gouis

Yeah maybe having to build a new shelter is only really devastating when you’re on a shitty beach and it’s 110 degrees outside and everyone is dying from infections.

      Fiji seems nice though.

    • Violina23

I kinda groaned at it, but it certainly forced pretty much everyone to start strategizing more intensely than they were expecting to, and that made [pretty much] everyone more interesting to watch. (Sorry CeCe…)

  • Hornacek

    Random thoughts (and I’m back):

Jessica tells Ken about the legacy advantage and that she would give it to him. Meanwhile David, the one that actually saved her, is standing off to the side waving his arms. “Hello? Guy that used his idol to save you right here.”

    “FigTayls continues!” Oh, shut up!

Zeke looks around at his new tribe and sees “a strong tribe”. Apparently he didn’t see David and CeCe when he looked around.

Post-swap, Jay is very confident because the Millennials have the numbers. How do these people post-swap that have the numbers always assume that everyone from their old tribe likes each other and will stick together?

What, no rewards at the 3-tribe immunity challenge?

It’s not just that Sunday beats CeCe to the platform, but the next one on her team, Jay, laps her.

CeCe is definitely the worst performer in this challenge. Oh wait, David dropped the ball back in the water.

CeCe points out that there are 2 “millennium” on her tribe.

Is David going to betray everyone and save the target two tribals in a row?

CeCe, not having seen the footage of her challenge performances, is shocked when she’s voted out.

Part of me wanted to see Chris throw David across tribal council.

CeCe thinks voting her out was the dumbest move Chris and David ever made. Umm …

    • DrVanNostrand

I thought the same about Jay. WHY DOES HE THINK ADAM IS ON HIS SIDE?? (I hope I’m remembering the tribes right. I think Jay is with Adam)

      • Black Dynamite

He isn’t. Adam is with Figgy and Taylor.

        • DrVanNostrand

          Thank you. Never mind.

          (Jay, Hannah, Michaela, and Will?)

          • Holy crap, it took me forever to remember who Jay was. To the point of speaking aloud, to no one. “Jay…Jay. Jay? WHO’S JAY?”

          • DrVanNostrand

He’s on both my fantasy teams because I thought he would be a giant douche. He kind of is, but he’s actually not as bad as I thought he would be. I feel the same way about Ken.

          • corndogshuffle

I’m pretty sure Jay is the closest Survivor to me in age this season, I avoided him like the plague in fantasy because I thought he’d be everything I dislike about the “douchey frat guy” crowd (not to be confused with normal guys who happen to be in a frat) but he’s actually been a pleasant surprise for me. He seems to have at least a moderate understanding of the game and gives interesting confessionals. I don’t need him to win but I hope he sticks around a while.

          • sharculese

He’s the dude with premature male pattern baldness.

          • Hornacek

            LJ?

          • Young Susan Sarandon.

          • sharculese

            No, that’s Victoria Justice, now.

          • As a millennial, I only know her as a BernieBro.

          • In fairness, Jay did get pretty lucky. He’s not only in a majority of Millennials, he’s in a majority of Millennials that actually all voted together at their one vote. AND he’s free of the FigTayls lodestone for a bit. It’s a great outcome.

          • sharculese

            Faylor. We’re calling it Faylor.

    • Saturday Night Palsy

      Random thoughts (and I’m back)

      Glad you’re back!

      • Hornacek

Hard to post thoughts on the episode when the only English-speaking channel at the resort is CNN. But at least I got to watch the second debate! Then I wanted to walk into the ocean and never stop.

        • I was in Dubrovnik last week ad the apartment had CNN, so for the first time I, too, got to actually witness Donald Trump rather than read about it. It was actually even worse than the British press makes it sound.

I’d pity you, but I am still trapped in a Brexiting hellhole so sorry, I have to save it all for myself.

          • sharculese

You don’t have to pity Hornacek, he’s from Canada.

          • Then he is the most fortunate of all of us.

          • Hornacek

One of my favorite clips that shows the view that the world has of Canada is the scene from Bowling For Columbine where Moore discusses American TV news trying to frighten their viewers, and then he compares it to Canadian TV news where the top story of the day was about new speed bumps that had been installed.

It’s true. Speed bumps are big news here.

        • sharculese

That was *sigh* the third debate.

          • Hornacek

No, when I was on vacation last week the second debate was on that Sunday. The Canadians in the lobby were trying to find a station with the Blue Jays game but were unsuccessful.

    • Diego Armando

Why did Jessica tell Ken how the advantage works. Now he knows he will get it if she goes home.

      • Alycia Swift

I am not quite sure she did. She said she would have turned around and handed it to him if she left but she did not say it had to be given to someone else. He took it to mean that it was still being shared.

I thought it had been confirmed that she has to give it to someone after she’s out of the tribal council area and it will just show up in their bag. The recipient won’t be given the advantage in front of others.

        • SpicyMayoJaySimpson

Oh that’s interesting, where’d you hear that it’s not done in front of the tribe?

          • Purplerockmatt

Probst said it in an EW interview

          • SpicyMayoJaySimpson

I think that’s a missed opportunity. Because if you know that someone has that advantage but they have to give to someone, you want them gone at F5. But if you get that far and something changes … Well you’d need to time it perfectly. There’s a lot of potential in that dynamic is what I’m saying (incoherently)

          • Alycia Swift

I think it was Dalton Ross’ 4 questions to Jeff after the first episode.

      • SpicyMayoJaySimpson

Did Ken fully understand what Jessica was telling him? I’m not saying he didn’t but I’m also not saying he did

    • Other Scott

Was Cece the worst performer? Like David and Michelle and Sunday were nearly as bad. Particularly David.

      • Hornacek

Michelle and Sunday couldn’t release their buoys, but it looked like like when they were swimming they got to the platform in a decent amount of time. David swam slow, but not as slow as Cece. Yes he let his ball roll back into the water, but CeCe was beaten in her heat by Sunday, who spent extra time trying to release her buoy and then went on without it, and then she was lapped by Jay, who went after Sunday. CeCe seemed to take FOREVER. It was the balance beam all over again.

  • Mike Hirsch

The nice thing about the tribe expansion is that now there are people I like on all three tribes, and so I feel far more invested in the challenges and the build-up to Tribal. To the point that I tensed up significantly during the challenge. Actually, I’m not sure that’s a *nice* thing, but it is nice to finally feel like the stakes are relatively high.

And, oh David, you lovable blockhead!

    • 100 percent agree here. Separating some of the underdogs is just lucky.

    • sharculese

I just want new Takali to go to tribal so they can vote off Figgy.

      • Alycia Swift

I’d agree if Adam was sure to side with Ken and Jessica. But I’d almost prefer Taylor to go just to see what Figgy does.., and she’s on my Genx team.

        • SpicyMayoJaySimpson

Superficially, you’d vote out Figgy so the tribe stays challenge-viable. But is Taylor more likely to blow up Adam’s game in the fallout? And would Ken and Jessica even agree to vote out Taylor?

          • No offense to Figgy, but I think once she’s out of his eyeline Taylor would probably forget about her pretty quickly. There won’t be much fallout.

          • SpicyMayoJaySimpson

(Sandra voice) I don’t know about thaat.

Taylor seems so convinced that nothing bad will come from his thing with Figgy that if something were to happen, I think he’d lash out in a major way. He wouldn’t just roll with the punches

          • Alycia Swift

Figgy is good with puzzles and decent in the physical part of the challenges so they’d still be challenge viable depending on the challenge.

      • Diego Armando

ADAM LOVE SEXY KEN. HE LIKE GIRL TOY, BUT WITH PENIS.

        • He’s a screamer, not The Hulk.

          • Hornacek

            Angar?

          • Diego Armando

I know. I started him as yelling. Then to comment on week 2 or 3 he became Brick Tamlin “I DON’T KNOW WHAT WE ARE YELLING ABOUT”. Then I started ruining his grammar. Now he is full on Hulk/Solomon Grundy. I am getting way too amused at this to stop, mostly since he in reality is a smart, articulate guy.

          • I actually really enjoy it. It’s Survivor’s version of Trans Am-washing Joe Biden.

          • sharculese

O/T: If I find a stream for Australian Survivor Celebrity Family Feud (yes that’s a thing that’s happening) can I post about it?

          • If it’s a one-off show and not a series, sure.

          • sharculese

One off. Apparently Australia has a Celebrity Family Feud, and their doing an episode where members of the post-swap tribes square off.

          • Diego Armando

I am too. The Ken doll thing made me giggle as I wrote it. I am a simple man.

      • Kemper Boyd

I kind of want it to be Taylor. He’s like a puppy but a puppy I want to kick in the face.

    • I kind of hope Ikabula goes to tribal next. I still think Hannah can be really great, but there hasn’t been enough of her. (And more Michaela is always better.)

  • gouis

Postulate: David is the new Tony

    • Alkanarra

He just needs to up his spy shack game and the resemblance will be uncanny.

    • I don’t want to give into that theory because Sharcy will come in here with his whole “Ken is Woo” BS. But, I sorta see it.

      • gouis

Ken has been a little dopier lately, but he immediately found Adam and may have forged strong bond there.

And there is something to be said for the fact that Jessica apologized to him and not David.

        • Black Dynamite

I liked the resolution between Ken and Jessica. I think them and David could be a strong group if they all make it to the merge.

          • Hornacek

Did anyone else notice the close-up of Ken’s hand on Jessica’s shoulder when they were talking and he had his arm around her?

        • This may be a bit edgic-y but the edit didn’t show Jessica questioning who the second Lucy vote was….she just assumed it was Ken and it wasn’t discussed. That’s a positive sign that the edit is trying to protect Ken somewhat.

          • Something Quirky

But why would David vote Jessica and then use his idol to protect her? Surely she’d realise.

        • Alkanarra

That chat also could have come after the swap and was edited to be shown beforehand. She might have figured out that Ken voted for her and feels with David gone that she needs to mend fences real quick.

        • He was the one who approached her in the first place, I guess – David might not have needed to save her if she’d listened to Ken.

That, or Jessica has the same weakness for Ken’s charms that the rest of the internet has.

          • Hornacek

            How could she not?

      • I love that a civil (very civil!) war is breaking out in our comments over whether Ken is an amazing unicorn or a bland piece of garbage.

        • DrVanNostrand

Can I put in a vote for bland unicorn?

        • gouis

Is it really a war when there’s only one person on one of the sides?

          • Two now…

Also, I love Sharcy (The Only Exception was my ringback tone for a long time) but I can’t abide his dislike for Ken. That’s the only thing I think we disagree about.

          • Kemper Boyd

3 sorry, I’m not into it. Not my thing.

        • corndogshuffle

Does the fact that I don’t feel strongly about Ken prove that I think he is simply bland? I mean he seems like a good person, but I feel like if he wasn’t Greek God Ken he wouldn’t be considered so highly. (not that he shouldn’t take advantage of what God/nature gave him)

        • Mike Hirsch

Whenever Ken’s onscreen I can’t hear what he’s saying because the chorus of Dream Weaver keeps firing up in my head.

          • I hear Magic Man, so I get that imagery.

          • Mike Hirsch

            It’s Raining Ken.

          • Dezbot

            Hallelujah!

          • Alycia Swift

Must Be Talking to An Angel for Me.

        • Black Dynamite

I would vote for amazing unicorn only if we can come up with an even better term for Michaela.

          • Khaleesi works, but is taken by Kim.

            Badass narwhal?

          • Hornacek

Badass Narwhal was my favorite 90s grunge band.

          • DrVanNostrand

What is a term for something that is strikingly beautiful, but ultimately boring and pointless?

          • corndogshuffle

            A McNickle?

          • Saturday Night Palsy

            “Fourth place”?

        • m0nit0rman

Has anyone suggested Ken has had Botox? His face was literally inexpressive when he was being pitched an alliance.

          • gouis

            LEAVE.

          • Wouldn’t it be gone by now or at least starting to wear off?

          • MsFjordstone

Botox effects last threeish months. Or so I’ve heard.

          • Really? I have always heard three weeks, hence why I was thought his Botox would be gone.

          • MsFjordstone

It’s an art more than a science; it depends on exactly where you were injected, how much you were given, and how your body reacts to it / processes it. I have a medical condition requiring me to get it done just above the eyes (I have slightly retracted lids thanks to Graves’ disease, also sometimes known as thyroid eye disease). I see my doc for it every three months, although I occasionally go back in between those quarterly visits for a booster on one side if I look uneven. I last saw her four weeks ago today, and the latest treatment is just *starting* to even out. Heck, you won’t even see any results at all for a week or so; if it only lasted two weeks after that, people wouldn’t love it so much!

          • Thanks for the information! This is actually really intriguing.

          • MsFjordstone

Yeah, it’s kind of amazing stuff, and because of its cosmetic reputation, people forget that it started out as a *medical treatment*.

          • I knew that it was supposed to help with excessive armpit sweating, so it is pretty cool.

          • Hornacek

Isn’t this what Russell did to his armpits when he came back?

          • No he just shaved .

          • Hornacek

Rob and Nicole talked a lot about him during that season getting laser surgery to remove his underarm hair. More than one exit interview confirmed it.

          • MsFjordstone

Didn’t know about that one, but it makes sense: the botulinum toxin paralyzes, so maybe if you zap the sweat glands just right…

          • indescribable hat

Yup. I have a friend who gets it for migraines.

          • MsFjordstone

I feel sorry for anyone who has migraines bad enough to require botox. Insurers make you go through every other category of migraine treatment drug available before signing off on botox, but when they do, it’s a horrific series of injections around the head, face, back of the neck, every couple of weeks for a series of months (or, I guess, forever if it works).

          • Purple Rock Emma

            He has age-appropriate forehead lines.

        • Purplerockmatt

it can be two things! (but it isn’t. unicorn all the way)

        • Something Quirky

A little from column A, a little from column B, somehow?

        • Kemper Boyd

He’s a beautiful, bland piece of garbage.

        • Assistant Dragon Slayer

Allow me to ruin Ken for everybody:

The guy talks exactly like Johnny Drama.

        • I honestly think he’s both.

      • sharculese

Whoa, whoa, whoa. This is unfair, and I never said it. Woo was entertaining and charming, but I was never worried he would be a disappointing winner. That’s the opposite of Ken by every metric.

        • Holy crap, I’m so sorry #guiltbyassociation. I honestly thought you were the one who said that Ken was David’s woo last week, but I have clearly been mistaken.

That begs the question: Who did say that?

          • Saturday Night Palsy

            #CaucasianWoo

          • It was you! Goddamnit. I should have known that it was you, you little Rodney picker.

          • Saturday Night Palsy

            I had a valid reason!!!

          • It still stands.

    • jersey_luck

No, David is not paranoid enough to be Tony

      • gouis

        WHAT!??! OF COURSE HE IS

        • Dezbot

          I’d say more so.

      • Poor Sheltered Homeschooler

There are many ways in which David is not like Tony.

Paranoia is not one of those.

      • Violina23

        Ummmm, yes he is?

    • the sky is falling

David questions his every move, David is the nervous nerd version of Tony

    • Alycia Swift

I can see some of that – except Tony was better in challenges (although he was not great in them) – and David does not make weird noises after finding an idol.

      • andythesaint

Tony performed well in challenges, until it got to the puzzle.

        • sharculese

I love how Tony is still bitter he never won individual immunity. It’s the most Tony thing possible.

          • andythesaint

He will continue to re-litigate a season he won to whomever will listen.

          • Purplerockmatt

whenever he comes back, he will spend the entire time going over everything that went wrong on the season he won

        • Hornacek

I love that shot of the final immunity challenge where Tony gets through the maze (or whatever he had to do to get all of the gears) first, then he just randomly puts the gears in place (incorrectly) and spins them faster and faster, as if increasing the speed would solve the puzzle.

        • Alycia Swift

That’s why he was not great in them.

    • Violina23

I really really really hope that’s true because it would be awesome

  • Black Dynamite

I’m confused how Michelle played her conversation with CeCe. I thought she would better explain that the CeCe was on the bottom. It didn’t bite her but why go after David like that? Also I love three tribe formats.

    • DrVanNostrand

It might have been a good play if David didn’t have an idol. I don’t think Chris cares about keeping David around, so if they lose again, I assume David will be getting the votes. Unfortunately for Michelle, David has the idol, and now he doesn’t like her.

      • I think Chris is worried about having numbers at the merge and he thinks that with David comes Ken and Jessica….unfortunately they just cut one of David’s numbers tonight.

        • Mike Hirsch

Hypothetical scenario: their tribe loses immunity next week again and goes to Tribal. Chris and David vote Michelle, Michelle and Zeke vote David, David doesn’t play an idol…would that mean fire-starting challenge? Because David could actually win that!!

          • That would be cool.

          • jersey_luck

It would be cool to see fire making, however, it be a rock draw between Chris and Zeke

          • corndogshuffle

I would be in favor of a pre merge rock draw. Or really any rock draw. Especially if the rock is actually purple.

          • Alkanarra

Watch it be fuchsia this time just to troll us. Probst has a personal vendetta with PRP after not being invited back to guest write posts.

          • DrVanNostrand

I think it’s still rocks at this point, and that David would actually be immune if he got votes. The reason I think Chris will vote out David if they lose again is because he doesn’t like David enough to force a tie.

          • Purplerockmatt

            its fire, look at Palau

          • corndogshuffle

It should be fire any time there are four castaways voting right? The rationale behind using fire should be the same whether it’s a pre merge tribe or a post merge tribe.

          • Purplerockmatt

yep. in Palau when they were at four left in Ulong, Probst warned them fire was coming, i think, before steph flipped her vote

          • corndogshuffle

All of this Palau talk makes me want to go and rewatch. I’m trying really hard to rewatch chronologically though. Finished Borneo and immediately jumped to Cagayan, followed up by Tocantins. So that idea is working out. Now I’m in Australia, so that’s a little back on track.

Anyway this is one of those things that I think has been in place probably since at least Palau. Ties at 4 mean fire. It only seems right.

          • Hornacek

It sounds like you have become unstuck in the Survivor timeline.

          • sharculese

So when do they fight for it?

          • corndogshuffle

That only happens in Final Four. It’s a few votes too early for that.

          • m0nit0rman

Probst warned them fire was coming

            Fire BAD!

          • Saturday Night Palsy

I was going to make espresso!

          • Violina23

            Tree Pretty?

          • andythesaint

The difference between pre-merge and post is that they don’t need to account for the idol holder. That’s why it doesn’t work post-merge, because it should be that three people would be immune. Pre-merge you don’t have that issue, so it could be rocks.

          • DrVanNostrand

I got the answer by googling. I can’t say if it’s right or not. Also, rules do change, so we shouldn’t necessarily assume season 10 rules are still current. I’ll try to look up a more definitive answer.

          • Does Zeke like Michelle enough to force a tie?

          • Apricot

Probably not. He might tie however. to keep the tribe strong.

On second thought, both of them were holding hands real tight in the end which warmed my heart but IDK if that means he likes just enough or not.

          • From the way he was working Chris, I’m sure he’d have happily thrown Michelle under the bus at the vote if the CeCe thing hadn’t presented itself.

I wouldn’t blame him for hedging his bets right now though. He knows he’s on/near the bottom with the Millennials, so maybe wait to see how the swap plays out a bit more before committing to either side.

          • DrVanNostrand

Perhaps not, but it makes for an interesting negotiation either way.

  • jersey_luck

That was a very good episode of Survivor. It explains the conflict on all three tribes. It also makes sense of where people stand.

There is also the fact that Michaela was a star in this episode. It a shame that we lost the other four minorities in the first five episodes, however, I am so happy that Michaela was the one that stayed around.

I also loves the sudden amount of Chris praise there was in this episode.

    • I am okay with Chris, but I don’t like his constant “I must be in control/the only reason why I want David around is because he will bring me numbers to control at the merge” mantra.

      • jersey_luck

I am also only okay with Chris, I just love how much love he got after interacting with younger people.

        • Let me fix that for you: Chris got love because he wasn’t terrible to a gay guy. However, some may see that as because Zeke actually knew about OU’s big 2000 win.

          • Mike Hirsch

“We have so much in common; he looks up to me and worships me, and I do too.”

          • Saturday Night Palsy

To be fair: Chris can’t grow a moustache.

          • sharculese

Chris at least has basic facial hair. It’s not like he’s stuck playing the game with a Boston Rob pedostache.

          • Saturday Night Palsy

To be fair: In all the photos I’ve seen of BRob in real life, it’s his van that has the pedostache.

          • DrVanNostrand

Given his ginger-ness, OU was all wrong for him. He obviously should have been:

          • sharculese

No. Nationalize all private universities. Education should be the exclusive prerogative of the state.

          • Settle down, Bernie bro.

          • sharculese

I voted for Hillary in the primaries.

          • I was staying in my lane as the inexplicably most “conservative” member of the PRP staff.

          • DrVanNostrand

For the record, I don’t actually like Notre Dame. As someone who went to grad school at a very fine private institution, I’m not opposed to them. However, I personally wouldn’t touch a Catholic school (or any other religious institution) with a 10 ft pole.

          • sharculese

Chris’s closest ally for the first four episodes of the show was also a gay guy. I’m gonna go out on limb and guess that in the million minutes of Survivor we didn’t see, Bret was like “by the way, I’m gay.” It’s completely possible Chris just doesn’t have a problem with gay people. He is a self-described Democrat, after all.

          • I forgot that Bret was gay again. That is a great point though. Also, I didn’t know that Chris was a democrat which makes our “how many Trump stickers does Chris have?” conversation funny in hindsight.

            Ho

          • Purple Rock Emma

I pointed it out, but we were at like 600 comments by then.

          • sharculese

Pretty sure that’s why I know it.

          • Hornacek

I don’t know what I’m more upset about – the fact the show hasn’t mentioned Bret is gay, or that it hasn’t mentioned that he’s pretending to be a mortician.

          • That’s actually pretty cool that he is pretending to be a mortician.

Man, he must really be boring.

          • Hornacek

I don’t know how it could come up in conversation. It’s unlikely to be like Kass saying she was an animal handler, which was never referenced until Tony went full llama.

          • Maybe on Day 1 when they talked about their professions, because apparently Jessica is not saying that she is a lawyer let alone an ADA.

          • Hornacek

It was revealed eventually in Cagayan that Kass told everyone she was an animal handler, but I don’t remember seeing any scenes where it showed her saying this.

Have we seen any scenes this season about Jessica saying she’s something other than a lawyer? Or Bret being a mortician other than a cop?

          • I think they are all secret scenes, because I theorized last week that Chris maybe was scared of Jessica’s intelligence due to her being an ADA.

          • Alycia Swift

He may have decided to forgo the pretending to be a mortician. Its happened before where someone decides to say they do something else for a living and then changed their mind in the actual game.

          • Hornacek

Yeah, but in that case I wouldn’t mind CBS editing their bio before posting them to remove any mentions of “My job this but I’m going to tell everyone I’m actually this.”

          • prettyboyprobst

Bret mentioned something about a police-and-military connection he had with Chris and Paul in this last episode, but I guess that doesn’t necessarily mean, that he didn’t go through with his mortician ruse plans.

          • I said he only had four, which would (I assume) make him an Oklahoma Democrat.

          • I wonder how many people actually know/remember that Bret is gay. I had already forgotten about it. But that is an excellent point.

          • sharculese

I don’t think either of their sexualities has come up on the show. I made a comment tonight about Zeke being gay, and my roommate frowned at me, and I had to be like “no, this isn’t an assumption, I know Zeke is gay based on information.”

          • I’m actually shocked that Zeke’s hasn’t made it to air.

          • sharculese

I ended up having to explain the wine and cheese alliance to her.

          • What explanation did you use? It’s basically Eliza’s clique of New York based castaways.

          • sharculese

She’s seen China, Kaoh Rong, Mills vs. Gennies, and Australian Survivor, so Eliza-based explanations (sadly) don’t work on her.

          • What did you use then? Courtney?

          • sharculese

No, I was just like “it’s a bunch of former players who live in New York who hang out together.” The wine and cheese alliance isn’t actually that complicated, it’s just that, like everything else involving New York, the players involved have to puff up its importance due to a personal sense of inadequacy.

          • #shotsfired

          • andythesaint

The only reason the Wine and Cheese Alliance aren’t the WORST is because the Dirty 30 exists.

          • Ms_Woozah

Also I’m upset that Josh is the one that got to stay in it, and not pretty-boy Reed. And yes, this affects me directly as I see them at Live Know-It-Alls sometimes.

          • Violina23

I’m a broadway nerd, and I actually saw Wicked when Reed was in the cast (found him in my Playbill). If he is going to be there, I should TOTALLY bring it!

          • I love Wine and Cheese and I’m not ashamed of that, but I agree that the Dirty Thirty are objectively the worst.

          • Alycia Swift

I’d argue that’s pretty par for the course on all former survivors that did not win. Everyone puffs stuff up.

          • Kemper Boyd

except Sophie who has no inadequacy…

          • sharculese

I will concede that Sophie is perfect.

          • Kemper Boyd

Do you think she sits there with them thinking “Ha, these losers, they will never understand my greatness”?

          • Hornacek

She probably makes Brian Corden kneel on the floor so she can use him as a footstool.

          • Kemper Boyd

Honestly how is Brian Corridan even allowed in? Guatamala isn’t an actual season of Survivor.

          • Hornacek

I just listened to Brian’s first (?) appearance on RHAP a few months ago (recorded during SJdS). He was the first person from that season to ever appear on RHAP, and Rob made multiple references to Guatamala as a “forgotten” season.

          • Diego Armando

I don’t think it was ever stated on the show itself. It may have been in the Secret Scenes which I have not watched.

          • StormofCuteness

Oops, I ended up repeating you again.

          • sharculese

            Lol.

As long as this is happening, I didn’t see you on the comments for the Drag Race finale, so how do you feel about Alaska winning?

          • StormofCuteness

That’s because I was heading out on vacation (I’m in New Orleans!). Here’s the T, I love Katya, but I think objectively Alaska did better overall and thus, earned it. Also, I just saw Alaska’s new T video, and it’s fantastic.

          • sharculese

Same here. I’m a huge Katya fan, and, while I thought the editing of the last couple episodes was confusing and teased a win for Katya we ultimately didn’t get, I can’t complain about Alaska being crowned. She worked it consistently and earned her prize, so good for her.

          • indescribable hat

And much like the last all stars, the winner is someone who came oh-so-close in her original season.

          • Alycia Swift

He also said that he would flirt if he had to with men in the pre-season press (at least I heard about it on another podcast, I never read that in the press myself.)

          • forever1267

I am very okay with this. VERY okay.

          • I didn’t get the impression that he was Zeke’s type, though. If he were, I imagine Zeke would have mentioned that in a confessional.

          • Alycia Swift

I’m not so sure about that. How often do we really see that one person is attracted to another mentioned in a confessional. and how often when someone is gay? I can recall only a few times – Taylor/Figgy and Boston Rob (Ambuh is smokin’), and maybe a few others. Most of the time its someone complaining when there is a couple.

          • Hornacek

Didn’t we just see it in this summer’s rewatch of Gabon? With Charlie and Marcus?

          • Alycia Swift

Which I did not do. I lived vicariously through you guys doing Gabon and just read the postings here. So one instance.

          • prettyboyprobst

But Zeke mentioned something along those lines pre-game. After this swap, I think all the stars are aligned for these tiny info pieces to become relevant.

          • StormofCuteness

Umm., he was best buds with Bret who is also gay, I thought I read.

          • Yeah, i forgot about that. I still think that some people still don’t realize that Bret is gay, so to see him treat someone like Zeke nicely is a welcomed surprise. Of course, it doesn’t help that Zeke is a competent challenge person who knew about Chris’s college football career.

          • StormofCuteness

Help/hurt…I knew what you meant. It was weird they went to the same school. Why Zeke wanted to go to OK is beyond me.

          • Purple Rock Emma

Zeke went to Harvard, I thought. I think he’s just from Oklahoma and it’s like one of those places where the college team is celebrated by the locals. I grew up in a college town but there isn’t a football team, so the concept is foreign to me.

          • sharculese

It’s possible to give close to zero fucks about this shit and still know enough to speak the language, and even be a little impressed by it.

A couple of months ago I tutored Tom Glavine’s kid, He was really smart and clever, and for most of the time I gave no notice that I had any idea who he was. All I claimed to know was that he had a confirmed spot on Auburn’s baseball team but wanted to boost his score for the tuition break.

Also, he had awesome dogs, so that was great.

The final session, he mentions something about his dad also being a pitcher and how he lived in that shadow, and I was like “yeah, I know who you are, but also, you be you.”

          • HBO CEO of Tits

It’s a little different between a hall of famer and just played for ou as far as fame goes. Lot of kismet going on with zeke and Chris. But I would geek the hell out for basically any Marquette basketball player, so I get it.

I don’t know what I’m saying, basically. I went to school with dick jaurons kid, which would mean something to roughly the same amount of people.

          • sharculese

There’s a solid chance I would have no idea who he was if I wasn’t from Atlanta.

          • When I was tutoring, one of my students had a dog that was so awesome that I decided I wanted that exact breed of dog. Every time we’d take a break, I would pet him or play with him.

The next year I tutored her, I brought my puppy along with me to meet the dog that inspired me to get a dog of my own.

          • sharculese

Was this the Aussie you were telling me about before?

          • It was indeed.

          • sharculese

            Aussies are awesome dogs.

          • Purplerockmatt

just like if a kid named after Michael Jordan met Michael Jordan

          • Something Quirky

What was that breed of dog?

          • You’ll appreciate this: An Australian Shepherd.

          • Something Quirky

Which are not actually from Australia =P

They are lovely dogs, though I haven’t interacted with many of them.

(Oh, and as a dog-walker/pet-sitter, I experience that a lot. Most recently when I started walking a schanuzer, and now every time I come across someone with one I have to ask questions about the breed, even though I know I’ll end up fostering dogs, and none of them are likely to be schnauzers. But when I’m old, maybe.)

          • I know they aren’t from Australia, but at least their name references your country. I figured you’d feel national pride the way I assume the French do any time someone mentions french fries.

          • Something Quirky

Oh, I didn’t mean to imply you didn’t know, just a general fun fact.

And I’m very happy to be associated with a dog breed like that. They’re attractive hard workers.
(Not that there’s any dog breed I wouldn’t be happy with… well, maybe some of the little yappy ones.)

Or like you would with American Staffys, which I have to say are the handsomest of the staffys with those smiling faces. I walk two blue American Staffys, and literally every second walk or less, someone comments on them, and only once has it been unfavourable.

Plus the French have french kissing, whereas we just have a bad pun based on that.

          • sharculese

Amstaffs are cool, the only problem with them is that black and tan is discouraged as a coloring, and I love black and tans coats.

          • Something Quirky

Aw that’s a shame. I like that staffys come in so many colour combinations, especially cross breeds.
Do you know why it’s discouraged?
Is it based on the ideal requirements for show dogs, or is there something else to it?

          • sharculese

No idea, but,if I had to guess I’d say it’s because a black and tan Amstaff ends up looking like a pudgy min pin.

          • StormofCuteness

I hadn’t known, but looked it up that he grew up on a ranch in OK. I’ve actually been to Norman, and the Sooners are godlike there. My home state is like that about our college basketball players (NM) so I get it. It makes way more sense that he escaped to Harvard and then NYC though.

          • Assistant Dragon Slayer

Northern California no-football-team college town that disdains the “NorCal” label. I think I can solve the puzzle now.

          • Purple Rock Emma

I don’t disdain the NorCal label, I disdain the “NoCal” label.

          • I got so fed up with all the anti-migrant press over here I installed a plug-in that switches words to Harry Potter terms instead. Then I forgot about it.

Anyway, I bring it up here because in my browser your comment now reads “the concept is muggle-born to me” and I got momentarily excited about someone using Harry Potter terminology until I realised that no, I did that.

          • Diego Armando

Football is huge and the Sooners are the closest thing the state has to an NFL team.

    • Despite his Probst boner-inducing macho alpha-ness, I really don’t hate Chris. He seems to be playing a pretty good social game, although I wouldn’t be surprised if he does something really dickish at some point.

  • Is CeCe the person with the smallest edit to get swap screwed? I know Peih Gee is in contention, but she at least had her tension with Abi. All CeCe getting votes at every single tribal council she attended.

EDIT: Also, at least Kelley had the Drewchebag episode to show why people may be afraid of her.

    • gouis

CeCe wasn’t screwed. She never really integrated in her original tribe and was TERRIBLE at challenges. Like could be blame for singlehandedly losing some of them.

      • That is true. I guess I have always heard of swap screwed just being used for people eliminated at the swap regardless. But, CeCe had one of her alliance members with her and they could have pulled in Chris…before Zeke went all Sooner Fanboy on him.

    • Max_Jets

Peih Gee got an alright edit. I believe Worse Than Vanilla Julia from Caramoan got less, Monica Culpepper in One World is close, Wentworth wasn’t a big character in Drew’s boot ep. I think Kaoh Rong spoiled us with good pre-merge edits.

      • Having freshly watched One World’s pre-merge, Monica is a presence because of her challenge abilities. She appears to be sixth on Salani because they like her more than Christina.

        • Purplerockmatt

the women really didnt like Christina and I could never figure out why, beyond the ill fated day one negotiation. is there anything else?

          • corndogshuffle

Because they were wrong, ok? So shut up.

          • I think her interaction with Alicia at the Kourtney TC didn’t help. She’s also reportedly dumb, which maybe didn’t help matters

          • gouis

            They were just jealous.

          • Assistant Dragon Slayer

I think it was just that Alecia was bullying Christina and nobody had a (in-game) reason to defend her. Very similar to Worlds Apart Shirin.

    • Purplerockmatt

let’s be honest. Cece should have been a first boot

      • Probably.

      • Hornacek

John and Andy predicted it in the cast assessment.

    • Kent McK

CeCe got such a weird edit. She voted with David every time, yet it seemed like they were not really that close. What was going on there? Strange.

      • That’s a good point. In fact many people are confused about why David played his idol for Jessica and not Cece.

However, CeCe didn’t vote with David at the first tC because she voted for Sunday.

        • DrVanNostrand

I think David knew where the votes were going, which is why Chris is so pissed off at him, which is fair. He clearly promised that he would go with the majority plan. For the record, I think Chris being mad at David about the Paul vote is dumb unless there’s something really damning we weren’t shown. David just voted with his bottom 3 alliance, and Chris really got screwed by his own people.

          • You would think that the anger towards David would be out in the open after Paul’s exit press.

        • Kent McK

You are right about the first vote.

I think David did not play it for Cece because: (1) nobody knows he has this idol, whereas it seemed like most people suspected he had an idol last week; (2) playing it for CeCe does not guarantee that he will be safe if this tribe loses again (if he really pissed Chris and Zeke off they may have forced a fire making challenge); (3) there is a good chance that this tribe is not going to tribal again before another swap or the merge (even if they lose and target David he can play the idol on himself); (4) Chris seems legitimately interested in working with him, and Chris would be a great ally to have going into the merge because he is a huge target.

      • Allies of pure necessity, I guess. While I’m disappointed David dropped her, I can understand his desire for a fresh start in some semblance of a majority – remember, he and Chris did seem to have a decent relationship back on the old tribe so it’s not as if it’s come from nowhere. Chris’s anger was mostly with Jessica.

      • Sadie

Didn’t Cece vote FOR David at that first tribal?

        • Kent McK

          Yeah, apparently I am mistaken.

    • Kemper Boyd

To be fair I don’t think you can call her swap screwed. The swap didn’t screw her at all, she should have been safe or able to get herself safe and had it stayed at 2 tribes she could well have been a target. Her challenge performance and lack of social bonds screwed her.

  • Side Character

So all of my remaining players in my pick 4 (Hannah, Michaela, Will) are on the same tribe. That’ll be interesting. This time they won immunity so it’s not all bad, but who knows what lies ahead?

Yep, this episode was great for Michaela. Starting a fire, on fire at the challenge, just fire in general.

  • turgid_legume

I really hate that RHAP has ruined the name Michaela for me due to Rob constantly saying it in Hantz-voice. Because I want to fully bask in the pure awesome that is Michaela.

    • gouis

      DELILAH!

      • Hornacek

        FLAWED!

    • prettyboyprobst

Try to pronounce it Michaéla in your mind. Before this season, I never knew that in English, Mikayla is phonetically the same as Michaela and just a really odd way to spell that name. Never occured to me. A name btw, that is really common where my mother tongue is spoken, and I guess in other parts of Europe and other predominantly Christian countries elsewhere, too.

I refuse to think of Michaela as [Hantz-voice] MIKAYLA.

She’s Mi-sha-éla to me, and could be to you, too.

  • Alycia Swift

I’m watching the episode now. I was so happy when David found the idol.

    • corndogshuffle

David just keeps lighting that scoreboard up for us and I love it.

      • Alycia Swift

And surprisingly Figgy is still here.

  • Vagabond

Well I praised Michelle when she deserved it, now I have to bash her when she deserves it. What was that tonight!? Terrible read of the Gen-X relationships and she’s lucky her scrambling didn’t switch her from safe to voted out, as it has to many players before her. Sometimes the best strategy is to do nothing and let things play out (Spencer in Second Chances anyone) and that was absolutely the right approach in this situation. Granted she didn’t have all that much time or information about the Gen-Xrs, but what a misread. Hopefully she’ll learn from that mistake.

Lots of other subpar play in this episode. Why tell David you’re voting for CeCe in the first place? 3 > 2 Chris, loose lips sink ships bro! Why is Adam so worried after the swap, this is the perfect opportunity to jump ship and make new allies. You have no reason to trust Figgy and Douchebro and the other side would welcome you with open arms! People really seem to panic (perhaps understandably) after a swap, and I think it takes a few days for reason to rise to the surface again.

    • Baulderstone

I was surprised at how bad Michelle played tonight as well. What was the deal with her making an argument for getting rid of David during Tribal? She couldn’t really believe she was going to flip Chris and Zeke. She already knew that working with CeCe was a dead end, so she had no reason to regret her leaving. She was built a wedge between herself and David, the only other person outside of the Sooner Friendship Clubhouse. Plus the decision to get rid of CeCe instead of David was Chris’s. By making a big deal about in Tribal, it had to have him questioning whether he can trust her next week.

Given that Zeke already dislikes her, she helped to make herself a more appealing target to everyone, while David was a team player. As you say, her best move was just to stay quiet and ride it out.

Adam really better just be posturing with his talk about deciding between factions. There is no way that sticking with Figgy and her boyfriend can be a good move for him.

    • Crappy

I think Chris keeping David on his side was a good decision. He already had Zeke and David turning it around to pull in Michelle with CC was a long shot. With David on his side, he gets to decide the tribal going forward.

      Agreed on Michelle’s poor play.

      • Vagabond

I guess it comes down to if you prefer your risk early or late. Telling David entails more immediate risk because he doesn’t really have a working relationship with you and he has demonstrated a willingness to play idols to save even tertiary allies. Keeping him in the dark has more risk later since, as you pointed out, it potentially burns a bridge you might need for a later vote. Honestly David comes across as such a people pleaser I’d take the risk of blindsiding him and assume he’d come back to me but there are valid arguments for going the other direction.

    • Apricot

Man I got so frustrated with Michelle in this episode. I really want her to go far as she seems like she is smart enough but she tried to be too smart here. Hope she will get her head together next time.
Also agree about Chris. He could have again been in trouble for sharing the plan with David. I was so convinced that David was about to pull the same shit like last time. Glad everything worked out as I hoped it would.

      • Chris is aware he needs David, I think. Gen-X are already the minority, and you’d have to assume that Bret and Sunday, at least, are doomed if they go to tribal council. There are enough Millennials in the game that they’re unlikely to need Chris as a number, assuming he’s even happy being in an alliance he can’t control…therefore every Gen-Xer (apart from CeCe, apparently) is a vote worth having if at all possible.

    • Other Scott

I think if you can, it’s better to keep more people in the loop on the vote. It gives you a stronger alliance if you need them later in the game, even if in your mind they’re in the minority.

And let’s be honest, no matter how that vote turned, it wasn’t going to turn on Chris. The worst case scenario for him was Michelle goes home instead of Cece or David, and why would that matter that much to him?

      • Vagabond

I’d say it’s higher risk higher reward telling more people than necessary about the vote. Information is currency and people can always use that information against you (example Michelle turning the first millennial vote around). I think there’s a totally valid argument to be made for telling David, but given that he’s shown a willingness to try and save allies and a people pleasing desire to get back in people’s good graces I personally would have left him in the dark.

  • Kent McK

I like how easy it is to find idols this season. The easier they are to find, the more often they are going to be played, and the more idol plays the better. I also really like how finding one idol gives you a leg up on finding another. David must have every confidence in his ability to find a third idol, which means he probably isn’t holding on to his second idol for very long. I think we are in for a lot of nutty tribals.

    • Apricot

And they have made it especially easy for the same person to keep finding the idols because they know what to look for specifically (tribal logo?).

      • I can’t help but think production would be quite content for David to keep finding and playing idols. Bet they’d switch the means of finding them sharpish if a less entertaining character stumbled across one though. No one is going to keep placing idols in such a manner that, say, Sunday benefits.

    • Kemper Boyd

I really don’t like it. I liked making the clue obvious but the idol hard.

      • SpicyMayoJaySimpson

I like this in theory, but I agree with Kent in as much that for newbie seasons, more idols is better. For returning players, the strategy can sometimes outweigh the utility of idols; then I like the work they have to put in to get them

  • Saturday Night Palsy

So @Black Dynamite, how high does David rate so far on your top ten villains list?

    • Black Dynamite

David is becoming a mastermind. If he ever turns on Beautiful Ken, he’ll have a spot.

    • sharculese

Was it just me, or in his confessionals, did David’s body seem slightly… wrong. Kind of stretched out, in a Max Headroomy way? (Yes, Gennies, I know what Max Headroom is.)

      • StormofCuteness

Agreed. Also what was his funny line about how “that’s how all the women feel”?

        • Saturday Night Palsy

          I liked that brush off.

      • Baulderstone

          • Hornacek

I hope that one of the Australian players is named Annie so in the recaps you can ask “How’s Annie?”

  • StormofCuteness

I’m thinking my team (Zeke, Chris, Michaela, Sunday) was pretty lucky for a first timer.

    • Baulderstone

Certainly that Zeke/Chris pairing is. They seem like a really solid pairing at the moment.

      • StormofCuteness

I was excited by that, but having Michaela is what I’m most pleased with at the moment.

        • Baulderstone

Michaela had a really good night. I’m just hoping to see her turn it into a strong alliance with someone. We are getting close to the part of the game where being individually impressive starts to become dangerous. She needs a support group before that happens.

          • StormofCuteness

So so true. I guess the Mill. numbers make me think she’s is for the longer run.

          • Baulderstone

I’m not sure if the Mill numbers are good for her or not. You’ve got the pretty people alliance still around, which she isn’t a part of. She doesn’t seem to have anything going with Adam, who seems to be drifting over to Team Ken. Zeke has joined the Chris Fan Club.

I’m not saying she is in trouble. Nobody seems to be targeting her right now. She just doesn’t seem that much a part of anything going on with the Millennials.

Ideally, she can use her position to be a valuable swing player at the merge though.

    • Kemper Boyd

If it helps my first team came top 10. Every team from then on has been 60 or below. Good luck!

      • StormofCuteness

Yay, beginner’s luck is my only hope!
PS Barbara A. has almost my same team but David instead of Sunday so I understand why she’s the Khalessi around here.

        • the sky is falling

Me too. I also have a nearly identical team.

        • Kemper Boyd

I reject her title of Khaleesi based only on Kim Spradlin being Khaleesi. I like to think of her as a Suvivor Fantasy Maven

  • Crappy

Firstly, I hate that as soon as that first Cece confessional popped up, I thought she is going home tonight. Not 100% sure or anything but it was always on the back of my mind.

Here is Crappy’s take on some of the ‘moves’ tonight –

Chris – He wound up in a great position for multiple reasons. Had the majority of his earlier tribe with him, hit it off on a personal level with Zeke and his physical prowess is too valuable in a 5 member tribe. This meant that going to Millennials to target Chris was not even an option for David. Ultimately I think he made the right choice to boot Cece. With CC, you probably have next to nothing chance of winning the next challenge. Even now they look odds on to go to tribal again but gives them more of a chance. More importantly if the tribe goes down the Matsing route then he is in the Malcolm spot where he will get to decide between David and Zeke (assuming Michelle is on the bottom).

David – Like said above, Chris’s connection with Zeke meant that his options were limited, especially since Michelle too targetted him.

Zeke – His social connection worked for him here. I am more interested in his next move if they lose again. Voting out Michelle seems like the easy option but he could also side with her and force the tie, giving her an opportunity to beat someone in a fire challenge. That would be rolling the dice since if she loses, he is gone next but if she wins, he now gets to decide the fate of others in next tribal.

Michelle – Was it smart play to name David so openly in Council? I know she pulled off a big play in tribal in EP2 but she can’t think that something like that is possible every time.

Cece – Not much to say. If you are a poor physical player like her the you definitely need some luck pre merge to end up on a strong tribes.

I also hope that we don’t see this tribe going to tribal again more than once. In fact I won’t be surprised if we go back to 2 tribes again at 14 if orange loses again.

    • prettyboyprobst

I’m a little bit surprised that everybody is so upset about Michelle’s tribal council. Didn’t they agree on making it a blindside and agreed that nobody should believe anything of what is said at tribal (That was in the “It’s Chrismas” scene)? There are only so many directions she can point to, when asked a question by Probst. Now she probably shouldn’t have been so direct and outspoken, but I don’t think Chris or David will be very mad at her. Maybe the latter, but probably not for long.
I’m more worried about her safety in this tribe, because Chris seems to hold all the cards in this tribe and he likes Zeke and talked himself into David&Friends protecting him after the merge for some reason.

  • Ken’s confessional after Jessica told him about the legacy advantage was cut, right? ‘She has the legacy advantage and will give it to me if she’s voted out, which is great because it shows how much trust we have now…and I have to make sure I vote her out eventually so I can get it.”

    Right?

    …Right?

    • I can only assume. If he wasn’t thinking that way, he’s insane. Though “eventually” needs to mean the jury stage, since you get the added bonus of getting her vote at final tribal council.

      • Plus, of course, you need to vote her out without actually getting the blame. It’s going to be interesting watching people work out how to do that.

        • Hornacek

Ken needs to orchestrate a vote against Jessica but leave someone out of that plan and convince them to vote with Jessica. That way Jessica will see another vote for the person she voted for and assume it was Ken.

          • Alas, I have seen nothing to convince me Ken is that devious. Which is disappointing, because Beautiful Ken turning out to be an evil mastermind would absolutely make this season for me.

          • Violina23

That would be really neat, but I find it hard to believe he has the capacity to:
            a) Figure all that out
            b) Be able to orchestrate it

          • Hornacek

Yeah, he probably needs someone else (like David) to orchestrate it, but he needs to be able to recognize the situation and take proper advantage of it to make Jessica think he wasn’t part of it.

    • Alycia Swift

We did not see her actually say that she was required to give it to someone else only that she was going to turn around and give it to him … so he might not know that she has to be voted out for him to get it … he thinks she is sharing it. Plus, we know she can’t actually just hand it to him in front of others.

      • prettyboyprobst

Point taken, but I think she could hand it to him in front of everyone else – just not after being voted out.

  • Black Dynamite

Hannah Moment of the Week: I liked the hug she gave Michaela. Keep it cute, Hannah.

  • Diego Armando

I honestly think it might have been a good idea for David to save CeCe. Michelle is targeting him and Chris doesn’t trust him. He will likely have to use his idol if they lose next week and saving CeCe would give him an ally.

    • Other Scott

He put zero effort into trying to turn that vote around or anything. I think part of it was he needs to not go to tribal again, and Cece is a hindrance to that. Not that Cece singlehandedly blew the challenge, Michelle and David wasted just as much time.

      • Hornacek

David was bad, and Michelle wasn’t able to get the buoy, but CeCe got passed by 2 members on another team while still in the water. It was the “3 and a half millennials” on the balance beam all over again.

        • Other Scott

True, but that’s not worse than not getting the buoy, which forces someone to first swim back to the platform, and then do another round to get to the buoy. That’s like the equivalent of forcing someone to go two extra times.

          • Hornacek

Considering that you can send your best swimmer back to get the buoy that someone else missed, that is not as big a time-killer as someone who swims so slowly that 2+ other people on another tribe pass you.

I think Chris went back for Michelle’s buoy, and Taylor (?) for Sunday’s, and they were both very quick going back to the start and getting back with the buoy. CeCe got her buoy but she took FOREVER, wasting much more time than Sunday or Michelle did.

          • Purplerockmatt

            Jay went back for Sunday’s

          • Hornacek

How could I possible mistake Taylor for Jay? They are nothing alike.

    • Sadie

He uses it, pisses of Chris again, and it’s 2-2 next week.

Maybe now Chris will (mistakenly) trust David a bit now since he thinks he needs David’s allies (who he for some reason thinks will have his back…)

      • VoicOff

Yeah, David can’t afford to be that unreliable, and i think Michelle tried to point that out during TC

  • Hornacek

Did Chris say that he would throw David at tribal, or choke him? I heard “throw”, but I’ve seen lots of people saying that he said “choke”.

Personally, I find the idea of Chris throwing David across the tribal council set funnier.

    • Alycia Swift

He said choke at one point before tribal. At tribal though he said he was kidding about that.

  • SpicyMayoJaySimpson

David was so loud opening the log and finding the idol I was positive someone was going to catch him red handed

Wow these tribe colors are garish

Was that a producer laughing at Michaela or just the background music?

“Is he throwing this?” Somehow this is the funniest thing about David and the buoy

By both her comments after the challenge and after the vote, I’m not sure if Cece knew that she was a challenge liability

    • Hornacek

I imagine CeCe watching these episodes saying “Man, that woman is terrible at the challenges … wait, that’s me!”

    • Something Quirky

That laughter was a bit odd. They don’t usually do vocal sound effects, so perhaps it was a producer laughing.

    • sharculese

When the pre-merge colors have been purple and orange, the post merge has always been green, so I’m curious what they’ll do now.

      • SpicyMayoJaySimpson

I would’ve liked a teal or turquoise-esque color for ikabula and green at the merge

  • Ms_Woozah

Coincidence that as soon as Figgy was put on a tribe with Ken, she immediately wanted to ditch Taylor? I think not.

    • Hornacek

I did notice a few shots of Taylor talking at camp and the camera focused on Figgy watching him, and then on Taylor watching Figgy. Not sure if they were trying to setup a triangle, or jealous boyfriend.

      • VoicOff

Yeah i wondered if they would go there.
But then Figgy flirted back to her golden retriever of a boyfried

        • Hornacek

Yeah, but I’m wondering if Taylor will get jealous of Ken, even if Figgy shows no interest in him.

  • turgid_legume

The ‘next time on Survivor’ tease has rekindled my burning desire to see one of Figgy or Taylor go down hard (phrasing) for being so stupid about their relationship. The rest of the team being like, “ah-duh!” when they announce they’re a couple has got to be the editors reassuring us that this will happen. LET ME HAVE THIS SURVIVOR. I PUT UP WITH THE 2016 ELECTION.

    • sharculese

When they brought up Faylor in the previously on I was certain it was happening this episode. The fact that they keep remind us that bobo Romber exists means somethings happening to them soon.

      • Purplerockmatt

i too was sure it was happening this episode until about halfway through

    • Mike Hirsch

It *has* to be next episode, right??? Stop toying with us, editors!!

    • Kemper Boyd

when they got put on that tribe with Adam I thought “yay, Adam can vote out Figgy” but I’d actually like to see Taylor go, he’s like a 13 year old in their first “relationship”

  • forever1267

Thank you, Oklahoma Sooners, for bringing two of my team together! And I’m saying this as a Proud Jayhawker! #RockChalkJayhawk

  • SpicyMayoJaySimpson

r/survivor is saying that Michaela is Sandra if Sandra was better at challenges. While I think there’s an outcome where that’s possible, I feel like its way too early to know if they’re even close.

    • Kemper Boyd

I can see the personality of it, but if she continues to beast mode then she’ll get clipped after the merge when they start worrying about immunity runs.

    • Roswulf

GAH! I don’t think that’s true at all. For all of Sandra’s delightful performance for the TV, she’s also someone who on her first time out built a tribe controlling tight three with the greatest of all meat shields and a muppet (and then managed to assemble a second successful alliance once Plan A crumbled).

Michaela is great television, but has shown none of Sandra’s social game.

  • Ms. Sweaterfan

I’m really late to the party since the stupid debate preempted Survivor in my timezone [I watched the Cubs game instead, which is a life choice I stand by big league]
Anyway, I really think this season is trending upward, after a relatively weak start. I could not <3 Michaela more, though my prediction for her is that she will go out at 5th or so.
I'm sad CeCe was voted out, but based on the edit and how this season has been going so far, we pretty much should have known. And, when viewed as its own individual vote (as opposed to part of an unpleasant trend), I think this was probably the right choice if they want to be competitive in challenges.
Unless something crazy happens next week, my guess is that the same tribe will lose and David may be in real trouble (unless Hannah dies during the challenge).

    • turgid_legume

David has a chance. My initial reaction to seeing the tribe distribution was, well at least David’s on a team with Chris, so they should be safe at challenges. Obviously that was wrong, but at least now they only have one boat anchor weighing them down instead of two.

And heck, there seem to be vending machines full of idols strewn about, so worst case he uses his second idol and finds a third on the walk back from tribal council.

    • Kemper Boyd

I came late because I live in the UK and if I don’t watch it on my way to work then it’s the next night for me.
Michaela is amazing, I love her a lot. She’s amazing TV, watching her destroy those guys in the free throws was epic.
CeCe really couldn’t survive after Chris saying he wanted to flip and her performance in the challenge.

  • Something Quirky

Unrelated to this episode, someone on The AV Club linked to this reddit post mapping out the filming locations of Survivor:Palau. It’s long, but interesting. Or not, depending on what your interests are.

  • I’m starting to warm up to this season. There’s a lot of fodder in the cast, but the people who actually do things are entertaining and playing the game pretty intensely. If Michaela, Zeke, and David make it far, I will be very happy.

    • Violina23

I agree, I was kinda “meh” the first few episodes, but it’s gotten a lot better. Everything’s coming up Milhouse!

    • Yeah, the nice thing is that I don’t think we were ever going to get much out of Lucy, CeCe, or Rachel. Mari and maybe Paul had potential, but the players most likely to bring us entertainment are still in the game.

    • Hornacek

Once the theme has been dropped by the wayside and the players realize that it’s not actually millennials vs GenX but a bunch of individuals against each other, I think the season will continue to improve, despite Jeff’s attempts to continue to make the theme relevant.

  • the sky is falling

Posted in other thread, but posting here in case comments still going here:

Hard to believe that, As incompetent as David seems, he is one idol away from tying the record held by Tony and Hantz at 3. with the abandon he plays them, good chance he sets a new record.
I believe the record for most idols played in a season stands at 2.

  • VoicOff

Sorry people, i always root for an underdog, but i just don’t like David. He is grating to me, not charming. He trully is a hindrance in challenge. The moment he was running after the ball he dropped like some particularly stupid duck i laughed so hard. He just seems like someone who would be annoying in real life.
