Dan is the worst!

Shirin is hilarious (or at least tolerable this week if your name is Andy)!

  • SHOCKED that you didn’t make Jenn’s quite the feature image.

    • I meant to, but I was in a hurry and it wasn’t already uploaded. When in doubt, always bet on my laziness.

The link to save as says episode 7…but the title of this post says “The Purple Rock Survivor podcast: Worlds Apart episode 8”. Help.. I need my podcast fix offline.

    • It is episode 8, just labelled incorrectly.

      • Samantha (VaderDawsn)

Thanks for putting my mind at ease!

      • For the record, it’s not labeled incorrectly. Survivor aired two episodes in one week. We only had one podcast about those two episodes.

This is a weird moment for doing power rankings, as in (except for Mike) all players with power now have bad edits, while those without power have good edits.

If I were to judge by the moment, I would rank:
    1. Tyler – I feel Tyler is on the best spot right now, since the NC+Shirin and BC seem to not go along at all (they don’t even know Shirin’s name), it is hard to imagine a final coalition that doesn’t involve Tyler. I would be very surprised if he didn’t get to F5-6, and if he goes along with Rodney’s plan, he has a top shot at winning.
    2. Rodney – Rodney for all that there is doesn’t seem to be that bad at his game. His insight to take out Joe was good, and his plan to take down Mike on F7 seems strong. He set up a good F4 that might allow him to get to FTC, and while his chances there are not good, he is no Dan. Besides, most people that really detested Rodney (notably Lindsey) are not In Ponderosa.
    3. Carolyn – same as Tyler, but with worse challenge and FTC potential (although people there seem to like “Mama C” alright).
    4. Mike – After Joe is gone he will be in severe danger, but right now he is on the majority, Moreover, he would only potentially lose to Joe on FTC and is good on challenges. And he has a HII.
    5. Joe – you said all there is to say about Joe. If he gets far, the game is his, but hard to imagine he will do so.

If, however, I were taking the edits into account and ranking for winning chance, I would say:
    1. Mike – If a BC is winning (and right now a lot points toward that happening), then it HAS to be Mike. Therefore right now I would say his chance of winning is around 50%, way more than anyone else.
    2. Jenn – Jenn’s second place is purely due to her star edit. Right now I agree that her chance of leaving next week is very high, but if she doesn’t, and if WC do flip the game at some point, then her chance of winning would rise to almost 100%. I would give that ~30% chance of happening.
This is a bold bet, but I’m pretty sure one of those two is winning this game.
    3. Tyler – Tyler’s edit has been getting better as the show goes on, but this can be purely mechanical due to less players still in the game. He has been a shadow so far, but his edit is not bad or hidden enough for him to have no chance. If he does win, however, I’m sure will see a Natalie type star performance from him in the next weeks. He has to start by taking out Joe, Mike and Jenn. After these are gone, he “just” need to get to FTC and the million is his.
    4. Shirin – Shirin is a really long shot, but it is possible. Her edit is kind of bipolar, most of the time it seems the show is making fun of her, but it also tries to make us emphatize with her. I can see her being a dark horse winner, and I wouldn’t mind that at all, but it is hard to think of a situation she would get the FTC votes.
    5. Carolyn – I just put her here to make 5, I’m 100% sure one of the 4 above will win this season.

All in all, I feel the edit clearly points to the BC NOT winning this game, so right now I would give it to Jenn. Which goes against me giving Mike 50% and Jenn 30%, but as I said, at this moment what we see on the screen and what the edit tells us are saying two completely opposite things.

      My power ranking is differnet:
      1. Will
Currently in good standing with No Collar, since they assume he voted with them. He has a strong relationship with Carolyn. He is friends with everyone. He is physically weak, which is good at this point in the game.
He still has the artificial super-positive edit (when you ignore his challenge performance).

      ….
      a gap
      …..

      2. Shirin
I don’t think that she will win. But I feel that she can get a lot of jury votes, how surprising that might sound. I assume that no collar will be rooting for her, along with some blue collar. I however don’t know if she makes the final council.
The 180 in edit helps her chances.
And hey, I really liked her since day 1, so I am probably biased.

      3. Jenn/Sierra
I have a feeling that the winner of the season will be female, or else a male defending and/or uniting the women.
Jenns confessionals remind me of Sandra 1. Sierra might revenge Lindsey.

      4. Rodney
He is quite controversial. He’s comes across as an unlikable A-hole. But I believe that the edit has done a lot to make him appear somewhat nice, while still leaving an impression of his character. I feel like he has done worse on the island.

      5. Mike
He might be one of the weakest players in the game, in terms of strategic power. There is a big -x- painted on his back, and on his chest, and on his forehead. He however has an idol and might be kept around, and go on a long immunity streak after Joe is voted out.

      6. Carolyn
Honorable mention. I really like the strategic position that Mama C is in. But the edit makes her devoid of positive emotions. So I am assuming that she has no shot at winning.

The problem with Will’s edit is that he’s done a few of positive things that have been completely hidden from the viewer (such as his reassurance to the No Collars that he’s still on their side). Unless we are going back to the Tina edit for the winner for some inane reason, there’s no way they would hide Will from us as much as they have if he were winning.

I love his gameplay though. He’s played awfully close to my ideal plan for being on Survivor:
        1) Don’t be afraid to jump off the sinking ship. Bottom of majority alliance is always better than anywhere in the minority alliance.
        2) Be close to everyone. Even if you have to hurt them, they might still like you enough to give them your vote at the end
        3) Do whatever you can to keep the target off yourself as long as possible. If you can find a way to be a fake goat, do that.

There’s a couple more steps involving who to get to the end with and how to handle final Jury, but he’s done everything so far.

I feel like the best thing Tyler could have done in that spot is exactly what he did. He was able to think consequences on the spot better then most people with time to think about it.

Mike saw them reading the clue and Tyler suspected that he’d seen. If he makes up something what happens when Mike follows Joe, or follows him? He will know Tyler was lying. Why make someone distrust you when you don’t have to? Especially considering if Tyler didn’t tell him, Mike still could have followed Joe and found it anyway (all the while knowing Tyler was sneaking around) either way Mike very well could find the idol. This way Tyler looks trustworthy and forthcoming. Obviously none of this was ideal at all and I do think Tyler should have looked harder!

Also Mike’s plan: bad. Maybe it gets people to stop looking. But when it comes time to vote Joe out, people will be afraid of the idol. Which means at best a split vote where the some people he’s playing with are HIGHLY incentivized to take advantage and get Mike out

    • As Andy said, Tyler could have revealed only a small part of the clue to Mike.

And for someone like Mike, having the idol (and keeping it a secret, which he seems to intend to do) is worth the risk.
