Survivor Game Changers Week 2 Predictions and Poll

Most of you didn’t need two shots to get the first boot of the season right. Some of us just didn’t want to see it.

We’re getting a tribe swap this week, going from two tribes to three. Since most of the information available to us at this point is useless, we’re only getting one crack at predicting the right name.

Boot Predictions

Andy: On the podcast, I predicted Troy thinking that I saw him hunting the goat in the previews. I’ve seen it again now, and it’s clearly JT. Which makes me wonder: do I just keep the Troy prediction because it makes me feel good, or do I stick with my reasoning and switch it to JT? Further complicating matters, JT might be the one going after the idol. And as we all know, the new no revote rule has made it impossible to vote for anyone even SUSPECTED to have an idol. Very bad. Ah well; let’s switch it to JT, and give the Queen back-to-back eliminations of the other two winners.

John: I don’t know how the tribes are going to break, so it’s impossible for me to guess who will be on a tribe that loses a challenge. If I have to fire a shot in the dark, I may as well pick Debbie, because she’s unpredictable and could aggravate people that want a stable alliance.

Emma: Swaps are a crap shoot, especially when you don’t know what the tribes will be. So as much as I don’t want it to be true, I’m just going to go with Cirie. At least then I can be happy being wrong or find solace if I am right.

Mark: There’s a swap this week, and while we don’t know where most people end up, CBS was gracious enough to spoil the new Nuku tribe. And since they have Varner and Sandra, I’m going to guess they don’t do too well. Sandra is already predisposed to going after winners, and with most of the old Mana tribe on this team, I see JT as a likely target. (Especially if he sows distrust and goes after the idol.) Bye bud…too bad you won’t be able to give it to someone in a letter.

Matt: Cirie goes home. God it pains me to predict this, but I don’t really see anybody else that was set up for a boot, which means either that the set up will be mostly confined to the new episode (not unlikely) or it will be the one person that got totally frozen out by her tribe.  Maybe she is about to go on a big come-from-behind arc, or maybe the show is giving us all the Cirie we will get before she goes home because no one will work with her. God I hope I am wrong.

  • Diego Armando

I went with FFGCSDT. I don’t want it to be one of the other likely candidates (Cirie, Sandra, Aubry, JT) and maybe they featured her in the first episode so she can pass along her advantage.

    • Kemper Boyd

I also did, because we only know swap tribes and I just think she’s blah.

      • Diego Armando

She (along with possibly Debbie) are really the only who cares players I can see being taken out at this swap.

  • Maritimer

I went with Caleb, because I have no idea and he feels like a pre-merge boot. I feel like/hope the whole JT-focused preview was a fake-out about who was going to tribal, so I picked someone not on that tribe.

  • corndogshuffle

As much as I hate it I feel like Cirie is going home. She seemingly had no luck getting any cooperation from anyone on her original tribe and I doubt that will change this week. Especially if she is a challenge liability.

    • Other Scott

I just think Cirie got the Fishbach original tribe edit and will do fine now that she can move onto a swap tribe.

I picked Varner because it’s going to be tough hiding being a complete challenge liability in the first challenge of 6 person tribes

      • Ms. Sweaterfan

Good point about Varner – and with 6 people I think it’s unlikely he’ll have any room to hide in the challenge. He’ll be really lucky if they can stick him on a puzzle or untying knots, etc.

        • Kemper Boyd

He sucked at the untying and Sandra is surely your puzzle choice on that lot?

          • Ms. Sweaterfan

Yep, he’s in trouble. I don’t know the whole swap breakdown but I figure with Sandra on his tribe odds are he will be pushed into the physical portion of the challenge where a failure would be more noticeable. If he’s really lucky he can be the second puzzler and just let Sandra do the work.

          • Alycia Swift

Isn’t she with Aubry in the rejiggered tribe? Aubry’s pretty good too. But the difference is, Aubry is good at other parts of the challenges.

      • More importantly, having seen (what seems to be) the breakdown of the new tribes, it’ll be *really* hard to hide Varner’s challenge ineptitude.

        • You have seen all three tribes? I have tried looking for it (not very hard admittedly). Where did you see it?

      • corndogshuffle

This is what I hope happens, because it definitely gave me some Fishbach in Cambodia vibes.

I’m worried for Varner. I can’t stand to see him go out pre jury a third time but if “challenge strength” becomes a legit pre merge focus he could be toast. I don’t feel like challenge strength has been talked about this much in previous all-star type seasons, someone correct me if I’m wrong. Been a while since I actually watched one of the all-star seasons.

      • Purplerockmatt

        Varner was my other thought.

    • I actually think it’s Cirie. I just felt terrible predicting it, so I went with Debbie because I want it to be Debbie.

      • corndogshuffle

My predictions are generally terrible, so hopefully this is just another in a long line of bad calls by me. Cirie would make perfect sense and the only thing making me feel better is that it almost feels *too* easy.

Hopefully the Survivor gods are kind and let us sacrifice Debbie for Cirie.

      • Maritimer

I really don’t think its Cirie because it wasn’t Figgy, it wasn’t Aubry or Alecia, it wasn’t Fishbach or Abi, etc. The show has a recent trend of setting up the next boot in the first episode and it being a massive fake-out

        • I hope you’re right. I just fear losing a favorite. And as I said before the season, I think Cirie has by far the toughest path to victory. She’s at a disadvantage at nearly every stage of the game.

          • Maritimer

I agree with that. I have a tough time seeing a viable path to the end for her. I particularly worry she’s going to end up on the wrong side of a showdown with Ozzy, which would just make me sad. I just think in this particular instance its a fake out

          • BadPlayer91

I think Cirie’s best chance is honestly just to stick around. The longer people spend with her and with Ozzy, i think the more likely it is they become friends with Cirie and become annoyed by Ozzy. If she can make it to the merge, than the path becomes a lot easier for awhile. She can downplay herself and emphasize Ozzy as a huge challenge threat, particularly at a time when people will be more clued in on that. And if JT or Sandra are still there, she can at least try to point to them as threats or try to work with them as a group of threats (putting the QueenBeef aside)

  • Black Dynamite

I’m 0-1 this season. I picked Varner this time around because I can see him as the challenge liability on the losing tribe. They hinted at his challenge word in the premiere and I think we get the follow up Wednesday. Even in all star seasons, challenges still matter. I hope I’m wrong and Debbie disappears instead.

    • Kemper Boyd

This early with that tribe I think if they worry they can’t get JT they are voting off Varner but I don’t think they are going to tribal, I think the preview was throwing us off so it’ll be someone else.

    • Ms. Sweaterfan

I voted the same way for essentially the same reason, but I feel like at this point it could really be anybody – they could go with a challenge liability like Varner or Sandra, they could go with an easy pick like Hali, they could go with a big threat like Sandra or JT… The only people I think are relatively safe would be the really strong and relatively un-strategic guys, like Ozzy, Caleb, Brad.

  • Super duper fan

I completely don’t know who’s going home this week, so I’m going to pick someone for completely selfish reasons- to better my position in the fantasy leagues. There are seven people which I don’t have in any: Malcolm, Sarah, Ozzy, Troy, Zeke, ATFFGCASCSSTHFPFASDFT and JT, so I asked myself “which one getting voted out would be the most beneficial for me?”, and the answer is obvious- I’m predicting that the “the second week boot is the most picked person in Pick-4” will strike once again and Malcolm will go home. I’m 90% sure that won’t happen, but for my own benefit I’m predicting him.

And here I will be showing my picks, and if I was correct:

    18.Malcolm (TBA)

    Mid-season winner pick: (TBA)

    • Hornacek

Shouldn’t you have two names listed for “20/19”?

      • Super duper fan

I only predicted the first boot who I thought would go from each tribe, so I didn’t have the second person from Mana picked. But if both tribes had gone and I was wrong about Zeke I would split up 20/19 and it would count as INCORRECT (and since the tribes will be known I will only leave the person I picked from the losing tribe as they do on this website).

        • purplerockandy

This is how we’re doing it as well.

          • Super duper fan

            Yes, that’s what I meant.

    • the sky is falling

I think there’s something wrong with the site. I’m certain you meant to type Debbie as #18, but for some reason it says ‘Malcolm’

      • Super duper fan

Ha, really funny (even though I’m one of the few who likes Debbie).

        • Parvatis2Idols

I like Debbie too (from what I’ve seen)! I straight up haven’t seen Kaoh Rong

          • Super duper fan

I think most dislike her due to how she is outside of the game (but probably are also annoyed by her).

    • prettyboyprobst

Interesting. Malcolm is the only one I see as completely safe on his new tribe.

      • Super duper fan

I’m probably wrong, but if it turns out he’s going home, I can’t wait for all the spilled blodd in Pick-4

        • prettyboyprobst

That would be devastating to the league.

Taking into account Malcolm’s edit, I like that he had a good presence in both parts of the double episode. But if you’re looking for reasons to doubt him, I do think that his edit was reminiscent of Varner’s in Cambodia.
We don’t get to hear from quite as often as we heard from Varner back then, but the same almost palpable excitement about being there is coming across the screen everytime we see him.

In terms of in-game logic I just don’t see how he’s in any danger until at least the next tribe swap, though. He’s nunuku’s best challenge person, seems primed to be able to work with anyone from his old tribe and said in his pregame interviews that he’s excited to work with JT, which can’t hurt. Even if JT gets an idol, I can’t imagine he would target Malcolm, with all these weak people and untrustworthy women sitting right there next to him.

  • Parvatis2Idols

With Cirie’s edit I’m not sure a tribe swap will really help, especially if Sandra also wants to gun for her. Maybe she’ll escape JT, Sandra, and Ozzy on her new tribe, but then there’s nowhere to hide. Unless they have a really obvious challenge weakness. Maybe they’ll take out Troy instead (one can hope)

  • gouis

That gif of Debbie is horrifying. Scarier than the Babadook.

    • corndogshuffle

As out turns out, one of Debbie’s former professions is “The Babadook”.

      • I don’t even want to know what Debbie’s Australian accent sounds like.

  • gouis

Can we take a second and talk about Rob’s guests last week? Having Vytas and Kass seems way too convenient given who went home. You can argue that Vytas was good as a first boot from an all-star season, but with Kass I dunno. Rob loves to pretend not to be spoiled but I don’t trust him.

    • purplerockandy

I’m not ruling out him calling Kass up after the episode aired.

      • gouis

I could have sworn he mentioned it before the episode aired, or at least in the KIA. He’s way too anxious a person to leave that to chance.

        • purplerockandy

I’m not saying he didn’t have someone else booked. I’m saying that he might’ve bumped them. Kass seems like she’d be available on short notice. TBH, we considered having her on our show.

          • Alycia Swift

Do it. She’s so fun to listen to.

    • Vytas was definitely someone that was easy to have as a first guest because he was first boot in Cambodia. And Kass was on seasons with Tony, Sarah, Ciera, and Varner. So she had a decent chance of being a guest during the week when someone she knew went home.

      • gouis

        APOLOGISTS!!!

        • You’d think we’d be more bitter after the man stole our bracket gimmick. But we’re such sycophants.

          • gouis

Everyone is so in the bag for Rob, even his direct competitors! We need more Survivor podcaster drama

          • Oh, I talk some shit about other Survivor podcasts. Just not Rob.

          • purplerockandy
          • purplerockandy

Oh, there’s plenty of Survivor podcasts we have beef with. They just don’t know it.

          • gouis

Is it future beef with me and Black Dynamite where we get together and break down your analysis on the Postshow PRP Podcast?

          • purplerockandy

We try not to punch below our weight class in our beefs.

          • gouis

THAT’S IT! I’M HEADING OVER TO DOM AND COLIN

          • Super duper fan

            Who?

          • purplerockandy

Enjoy all the Post-Ken, Post-Adam talk.

          • gouis

I don’t understand what this means

          • Super duper fan

            Me neither.

          • purplerockandy
          • Super duper fan

I think I get it now.

          • gouis

This terminology is bizarre. What is “Post” about it? Like edit analysis going forward now that Adam won?

          • purplerockandy

I don’t listen, but I imagine they’re saying “Post-Ken, can we trust obvious early winner’s edits anymore?” As if the Ken winner’s edit was an actual thing, rather than something they made up.

          • purplerockandy

            That octopus tho…

          • Sir Squiddington was a squid. If it were an octopus, it would’ve been Sir Octopusington, but that sounds stupid.

          • prettyboyprobst

Sir Squiddington made his only appearance in an extra scene, so he was most likely no part of any winner-edit discussions.

          • Mike Hirsch

I mean, when you have someone as handsome as Ken, and Ken goes spear-fishing octopi or whatever shirtless, you put that shit in the episode.

          • Ms. Sweaterfan

Didn’t you know that being a handsome 30/40-something white man = having a winner’s edit?

          • gouis

This is some real human centipede shit

          • Assistant Dragon Slayer

Yes, that’s exactly it. That’s why Colin isn’t worried about what the premiere says about Michaela, his winner pick (who is his winner pick mainly because of her “visibility” at the MvGX renunion show. Sigh.)

          • purplerockandy

Whenever I get frustrated by his cocksure arrogance, I realize that this must be what it’s like to listen to me on my podcast.

          • sharculese

It’s different because you acknowledge it instead of making up reasons that being totally wrong just proves how right you are.

          • sharculese

That undersells the insanity of it. He thinks there are clues to her winner’s edit in the first four episodes of MvX.

          • Ah, yes, Ken’s winner’s edit, in which he was either invisible or shown to be a complete tool.

          • Super duper fan

Maybe it’s an unpopular opinion but I wasn’t a fan of his at all last season (even though he IS ridiculously handsome).

          • Maritimer

Not unpopular at all. The consensus here was that he was hot, with lots of discussion about his ability as a game player (which turned out to be questionable). He came across really bad in his post-game interviews as well

          • DrVanNostrand

No, he was very controversial. Andy and I even accused each other of basing our opinion of him entirely based on his looks.

Andy: “You only hate him because good looking people aren’t allowed to be weird and socially awkward!”
Me: “If Ken weren’t really, really ridiculously good looking, you’d think he was a boring douche, just like I do!”

I’ll let you decide who you think was right.

          • sharculese

You were. Because you were right then, too.

          • Looking back, Ken had a clear losing finalist edit. We were even calling him Tai at certain points of the season.

          • Diego Armando

I thought they gave really obvious hints that ADAM was winning. They showed him finding an idol and tearfully dedicating it to his mom. At the time I thought that was a mountain top level hint.

          • I didn’t really pick up on the hints until Adam’s “Survivor bucket list” confessional. I was like “That’s odd that they would give that confessional to the fourth placer” because I’m an idiot.

          • Maritimer

It was, and we all thought so at the time. I remember the general consensus after the food/advantage fiasco was to write him off despite it. We should have had more faith in ourselves

          • DrVanNostrand

Who’s this ‘we’? I was calling him Hawaiian Zoolander and Smug Douche all season.

          • Black Dynamite

I don’t know how people even had time to call Ken anything when we were all witnessing the rise of Hannah.

          • There was a few of us. I think EmandScout was reluctantly seeing and saying it.

          • sharculese

The funny thing is that in like episode 4 of their MvX podcast Dom called Colin out on having pegged a different Obvious Winner every episode.

          • Black Dynamite

How dare you?!! The gouis/Dynamite Hour will be amazing. Or maybe the Free on Tuesday Morning podcast, whatever title gouis prefers.

          • How dare you forget the alternate universe PRP hosted by @disqus_R9cNRvxsfG:disqus and myself!

          • Black Dynamite

There’s room for multiple podcasts in all universes. There is also the future podcast where you watch shows/seasons that I won’t shut up about. It will be #2 on iTunes.

          • What are the shows/seasons that are on your list for me?

          • Black Dynamite

I’m not sure which of these you’ve watched already but some show examples would be The Wire (my all time favorite), Breaking Bad, The Americans, Mad Men, Buffy/Angel, The Shield and a rewatch of Parks and Rec, plus countless others.

Seasons would be Big Brother Canada 2, old seasons of Real World/Road Rules challenge and various seasons of Survivor you haven’t seen yet.

          • BadPlayer91

I definitely need to rewatch Buffy. Dat shit.

          • Black Dynamite

I was thinking the same thing with the 20th anniversary just passing. I binged watched it for the first time 4 years ago and was so pleasently surprised how awesome it was. Some of the creative highs it hit still gets to me. Also I like that Angel was able to have a completely different feel from Buffy but still be so entertaining.

          • Okay, let me break this list down:

The Wire: yeah…I haven’t seen it
Breaking Bad: I have seen up to the fugue state. I have all of the seasons on DVD though.
The Americans: yeah…I haven’t seen it, despite it being it one of my best friend’s favorite shows.
Mad Men: I have seen up to early season 2, but quit because I couldn’t get into IT.
Buffy/Angel: I have seen both thanks to my second college roommate aka the stoner.
            The Shield: Nope
Parks and Rec: I would be down with a rewatch of everything after Ben and Chris shows up.
I have seen parts of The Challenge because I knew of Sarah from Real World Brooklyn (aka the only Real World I have seen).

Also, I just finished the Cook Islands merge, so that’s progress.

          • Black Dynamite

Thoughts on Mutiny episode (12th on my best episodes list)?

          • It is really good.

          • Black Dynamite

They were definitely underedited. I wish we got more from their point of view. They were members of the greatest underdog story in Survivor. It does not succeed without them. Also I like getting the mindset from players who aren’t the consider the leader or most important member of an alliance.

          • Yeah, I was expecting Becky to be a bore from my Funny 115 reading, but she is actually really lovely and sweet.

          • Diego Armando

I love Becky. I honestly would love to have her back.

          • I would love to have her back without Yul because she is not awful in challenges and she seems to do okay socially.

          • Diego Armando

That is probably my third favorite merge episode. One is Cagayan, two is HvV.

          • I would probably swap those two in my rankings, but it is close.

          • sharculese

Martha and Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party is required viewing for America right now.

          • Kemper Boyd

It’s mainly us gushing over the Black Widow Brigade (well will do when BJ has watched Micronesia) and me taking the piss out of her terrible taste music.

          • Hornacek

What about your long-running beef with the Blackjack and Hookers podcast that doesn’t exist yet?

    • Ms. Sweaterfan

That made me a bit suspicious as well. Although, I can see an innocent explanation: Vytas makes sense to talk about the first boot, and Tony was an odds on favorite to go home early (or at the very least do something completely crazy in the premiere) so if they wanted to give Kass a chance to talk about him, they had to bring her in early just to be safe. Beyond that, Kass has played with several people from this season and is a big fan, so the odds are good that she would have had a personal connection to at least one of the premiere boots.

  • Mike Hirsch

I voted Aubry. I don’t want it to be Aubry, I’m not even entirely sure how it would be Aubry given their favorable tribe-shuffle, but I guess I’m just worried it will be her, because if JT did find an idol and they lost, Sandra would likely cut her with no compunction.

  • Roswulf

I’m going with Cirie, for boring reasons. It makes sense to vote out Cirie; these swapped tribes will probably last for at least 3 votes and she’s not a challenge beast, we know she inspires fear among the players in the game, and she’s a legitimate threat to win the game.

And while her edit in the first episodes has many explanations (including “Cirie talks good”), it’s consistent with a boot.

  • Hornacek

From what we saw from the previews, one of the 3 tribes is JT and 5 people from Sandra’s original tribe (I can’t remember tribe names this early in the season). Which means the other 2 tribes are made up of the other 3 people from Sandra’s original tribe and 9 from Ozzy’s original tribe.

The best Cirie can hope for is that she ends up on a tribe with (a) the other 3 from Sandra’s original tribe and 2 from her original tribe (I guess Zeke and Tai since she seemed to have the best bonding with them?) and she’s able to make alliances with those other 3, or (b) she ends up on a tribe with lots of strong players that don’t lose any challenges (and don’t want to throw a challenge to vote her out).

The worst thing that could happen to Cirie is that she ends up on a tribe with all people from her original tribe and either (a) they lose a challenge and they vote her out because she hasn’t made any successful bonds with any of them, or (b) her tribe is strong enough to win challenges but they throw one anyway to get rid of her.

It doesn’t look good for her. Fingers are crossed!

(I’m starting to worry that this season may get rid of all of the great players early, leaving us with a final stretch of episodes of Brad, Hali, Debbie, Caleb, Sarah, FFSDT, and Troy – truly the darkest timeline)

    • purplerockandy

I could see the former Nuku tribe people wanting to keep Cirie as someone they’ve developed bonds with for six days over a Manu person they haven’t. Especially if she’s there with people like Zeke and Tai.

      • Hornacek

I hope so. But if she’s on a tribe with, say Ozzy, Sarah and Debbie, I could easily see those three deciding to throw logic aside and get rid of Debbie in favor of someone from original-Manu that (a) is stronger in challenges, and (b) someone they trust more than Cirie.

  • StormofCuteness

I voted for Michaela because she also got one of those suspect edits, but I’m really afraid it is Cirie. *sad scared eyes*

  • I’m really not feeling great about Cirie. I haven’t seen the tribe breakdowns (although if anyone has a link, I wouldn’t mind seeing them), but she really seems set up with the outsider edit. I hope it’s a red herring.

    • Max_Jets

This was posted on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/survivor/comments/5z7utu/strong_evidence_from_the_survivor_game_changers/
Speculation about linked divisions, not spoilers If accurate, Cirie seems pretty well protected here. Tai loves her and could bring in Caleb and leave Brad/Sierra on the outs, or if the tribe doesn’t want to bring in Caleb then him and Tai could end up on the outs. Andrea and Cirie will probably be working together because Andrea has expressed interest in working with Cirie so those two are likely safe.

      • Super duper fan

Wow, new Nuku is MILES ahead of the other ones, but I’m interested in a reunion of Caleb and Tai (even though I like Hali, Sarah, Zeke and Debbie, having both Troy and Ozzy REALLY brings them down)

      • Ms. Sweaterfan

        Thanks for posting the link!
Maybe it’s just because this is a physically fit season over all (with only a few exceptions), but the tribes seem really evenly stacked to me, so I could see any of them ending up at TC depending on the particular challenge and random chance. If Tavua loses I think Hali is in trouble and if Nuku loses I really think JT will have a tough time making it out alive. That just leaves Mana as the wild card. I could see them turning on Cirie, but I could also see Cirie spearheading an effort to take out one of the guys. Maybe her convo with Tai in the premiere made her distrust him?

      • SpicyMayoJaySimpson

Based on this, it looks like either Troy or Debbie got the clue to the idol. Maybe Ozzy. But in each case, yikes. The best case would be for whoever finds the clue to be so clumsy and inept that everyone at the challenge sees them grabbing the idol, putting a target on their back. Then Zeke sets up a 3-2-1 split to flush the idol where the two without the idol are hoodwinked into thinking the other one is the secondary target.

        • Max_Jets

One good thing here is that they are the new tribe. Even the people I do like aren’t among my favorites, so if this is the group that gets unfairly screwed then I have no problem with that.

      • Super duper fan

And I wonder if the tradition of voting out someone in a majority in the post-swap three tibes phase will continue.

      • Purplerockmatt

Redmond said those are not the tribes, and this is the type of stuff I trust Redmond on.

        • Max_Jets

          Oh well. Thanks!

        • DrVanNostrand

I’m also skeptical of speculation that some player will work with another player because they said so in pre-game. They may be open to it, but things get jumbled up pretty fast out there.

  • PurpleTally

*puts fingers in ears and hums loudly* at the thought of Cirie going home. I’m keeping her on my fantasy team, and I believe in Cirie.

She’s probably going home this week, but I voted for JT for my own sanity.

  • Mike Hirsch

As the board’s foremost expert in all things Debbie, I expect continued mediocrity from her in this game until two or three votes after the merge, in order for my Most Likely scenario to play out as anticipated.

    • DrVanNostrand

      Same.

  • I have no idea what is going on and I kinda like that. I also think that you are going to highlight new Nuku in your NTOS because new Nuku may become a modern classic tribe. That being said, Varner is a prime candidate for next boot.

  • OTT: If you are wanting to watch/rewatch Micronesia with me, @purpletally:disqus, @otherscott:disqus, and maybe @disqus_3Sm0bOf1sj:disqus, the watch is happening soon. Just reply to this comment, so I know!

    • BadPlayer91

      INTERESTED!!

      • I thought I saw that, but I didn’t know for sure.

        • BadPlayer91

A chance to watch with a group and move closer to having seen all seasons, yes plzz!

          • We will have to do some coordination, but it can be achievable.

    • Black Dynamite

      I’m pumped for it.

    • Other Scott

How are we planning on covering this?

      • I don’t know. For once, I am not leading the blind here.

        • Other Scott

Hmmm…maybe if you ask the staff nicely they’ll give you the Shark Ausvivor key. If not, then we can have our discussion in the comments section of random articles!

          • BadPlayer91

The easiest would be something like “watch this episode by this date”

The most fun would be some way for us to all watch and chat about it all at the same time. I’m confident there are places this could be done and confident I have no clue exactly where they are, lol. Also, finding a time would probably kill us all…

          • Tally and I have been G Chatting and watching through Amazon Prime all of this time, but that takes a lot of schedule wrangling and syncing.

          • BadPlayer91

Yeah, i can imagine. I’m involved in theater and coordinating a 4-person writing session for 2 hours a week can be the hardest part of the whole show, lol

          • Luckily, we have been fairly flexible thanks to my super odd work schedule.

          • Black Dynamite

Maybe the comments section makes the most sense. It’s not as fun as live chatting but can still be great to have discussions afterwards.

          • SpicyMayoJaySimpson

Since this witch cursed me to talk about fantasy baseball in every thread, I have to say that it was hard enough to find one 2-hour session for a draft. I can’t imagine how you could find twelve 1-hour blocks.

          • We often do at least two episodes per night. Sometimes, we can only do 1 and sometimes we can get through 3 or 4.

          • PurpleTally

This mostly depends on how exhausted I am from teaching. Which is usually very, very exhausted.

          • Ditto on certain nights.

          • corndogshuffle

            Are we all teachers?

          • We have a bunch of lawyers as well

          • corndogshuffle

            Well, we all aren’t perfect.

          • Ain’t that the truth?

          • Black Dynamite

And a certain critically acclaimed actor who has been in such projects like Glory, Training Day, Flight and Fences.

          • Okay Nate

          • StormofCuteness

            ???

          • Black Dynamite

It’s an ongoing joke I took from my real life and brought here. A few years back I was serving tables in Florida and a lady said I looked just like an actor she liked. She was talking about Denzel Washington. I do not look like Denzel. It was a flattering compliment though (or probably racist). I told a couple of friends about it and since then I’m sometimes referred to as Denzel.

          • StormofCuteness

I definitely seems like a compliment to me. I am guessing she was flirting for sure!

          • BadPlayer91

If you were really Denzel it would be kinda great. Sia has to be around here somewhere right? Like, one of us MUST be Sia, yeah?

          • Hornacek

            Don’t you mean Hidden Fences?

          • StormofCuteness

I’m a former teacher (12 years of 7th grade English in South Central Los Angeles) still trying to recuperate after burning out/PTSD.

          • purplerockandy

This’ll have to be an offline thing. Can’t dilute our coverage with a random, inseason rewatch. You’re welcome to comment about it, of course.

          • That’s fine with me. I completely understand that you may not want us to use all your bandwidth to talk about your most overrated season.

          • Black Dynamite

I’ve thought about what would be my most overrated season but I tend to dislike seasons that people already dislike or think seasons were just adequate that other people think are just adequate. It ends up turning into a situation where World Apart ends up being my answer because people only have it as their 8th worst season instead of 2nd worst (where it belongs).

          • I think we all know what is my most overrated season is.

          • Black Dynamite

It could be. I’ve seen Cambodia rated as people’s favorite season. I have it at 6th. That’s a -5 difference for me.

          • Super duper fan

Even though I don’t have my own list, the only seasons that I could say I dislike or borderline-dislike are Thailand, All-Stars, Nicaragua, Redemption Island and One World (and I feel REALLY conflicted about Fiji), so I have prettly low standards and I would probably call something overrated or underrated if it’s 9 too high or two spots too low.

Also fun fact about me: I hate the word “overrated” *brrr*.

          • It’s a negative 11 difference for me. Yeap, Cook Islands has already knocked out Cambodia from my top 10.

          • Diego Armando

Mine would be China. I just didn’t like the cast, thought Todd was better at talking the game than playing it (especially on the heels of Yul and Earl) and was never invested.

          • gouis

You don’t like the cast of CHINA?!!?!

          • Diego Armando

Yeah. I found Todd kind of annoying and overrated (although his final tribal was fantastic). I hated Jean-Robert. Courtney took a while for me to warm up to. I never got James’s appeal. Everyone else was just kind of blandly mediocre to me. I just never had anyone I could latch onto. Especially considering that I was super into Yul in Cook Islands and Earl and Yau-Man in Fiji.

I honestly did not realize that China was a popular season until I came to this community. At the time, I was pretty isolated and into any boards. I was following IGN’s Survivor reviews, which matched my own opinions pretty accurately on those three seasons (Cook Island great, Fiji mixed, China unappealing) so I assumed that was the consensus opinion. After hearing some arguments, I have yielded so e concessions, but I still personally think it is a bottom 10 season. Sorry, just my opinion.

          • Kemper Boyd

            GET OUT!

          • corndogshuffle
          • Diego Armando

For me Worlds Apart is agrivating because it should have been great. The cast had a lot of highlights, the theme and twists were solid and the winner was good, but everything just went wrong. It would not be in my bottom ten (bottom 11-13 for me, depends how I feel about Panam and San Juan Del Sur that day) because there are so many kernels of goodness in it though.

          • gouis

My most overrated is Australia. Tried to watch it last year and couldn’t even finish it.

            And I love Borneo.

          • Max_Jets

It might as well end at Jerri’s elimination. Those last few episodes are rough.

          • gouis

And the finale is like 3 hours or something.

          • Max_Jets

Same length as normal, but there’s only 3 contestants so nothing happens. I think it’s easily the show’s worst finale and one of my least favorite Survivor episodes in general.

          • I love AO, but I can’t disagree with anything you said. If your only challenge in the finale is Fallen Comrades, that’s a problem. Of course, part of the problem is that they lost REDACTED a day or two early and they went for 42 days instead of 39.

          • Diego Armando

I like Australia a lot too.

          • Maritimer

Australia is rough. There are like 3 interesting boots, but once Varner goes, everyone kind of accepts their place and makes no moves at all. And everyone’s so nice to each other and that’s just boring

          • corndogshuffle

Australia’s post merge is brutal. And it gets less interesting the longer it goes. RobC says it has the worst finale of all time and I think I agree. I was shocked at how dull Australia was given it’s reputation and how strong the cast is on paper.

I think Africa does a better job selling the location as “player 17” and Borneo is just much more interesting. Marquesas has more interesting plot twists. This is unpopular most of the time but I think Australia is clearly the weakest of the first four seasons.

          • Kemper Boyd

It’s Caramoan for me. I don’t get the hype.

          • Super duper fan

The question is now if you find it the second-worst season as Reddit.

          • Kemper Boyd

Oh god no. It’s bang average for me. Somewhere between 15-20 I think. My bottom 5 seasons are All Stars, Redemption Island, Nicaragua, One World and Thailand.

          • Super duper fan

I have the same bottom five, and I have Caramoan probably at 21-22, maybe a little higher (and with that five being the only seasons that I’m not a fan of, it’s not that bad).

          • Kemper Boyd
          • Super duper fan
          • Kemper Boyd
          • Super duper fan

Link doesn’t work for me, but I’ll have a shot in a dark-Aww, it’s so sweet, you’re the best.

          • Kemper Boyd

            It’s Sandra and Courtney fistbumping.

          • Super duper fan

So, what I said is correct.

          • Diego Armando

            My bottom 6 are:

            6. Worlds Apart (Kim is the only think keeping this out of the 5 slot)
            5. Africa
            4. Nicaragua
            3. South Pacific
            2. Samoa
            1. Thailand, by a landslide

          • Super duper fan

Wow, Kim was so good that she became a ninja and was in WA. If it doesn’t prove that she is the best winner of all time, I don’t know what does.

          • Kemper Boyd

Oh god Africa, frankly I just don’t rewatch anything pre-Amazon. It’s all pretty dull. My list is based heavily on how much I enjoy rewatching as I didn’t watch anything before Cook Islands live.

          • Diego Armando

The worst thing about Africa was how terrible an idea the setting was. The lack of water, literally having lions outside the camp and the unclean water that literally sickened a contestant sunk what was already a dicey cast.

          • Black Dynamite

I agree with you on Caramoan. I think the the positives are that it had one truly great episode, some other memorable moments and was a solid showcase for players like Andrea, Dawn and Malcolm. The negatives weigh big though. Horrific pre-merge, lackluster or irresponsible casting, and too much bland. It think it had a brief super high shortly after the merge that the rest of the season never comes close to.

          • the sky is falling

I guess it takes all kinds. Other than the Hantz debacle Caramoan was an awesome season to me and I was on the edge of my seat throughout. I looked it up all this cool stuff happened, some which are still oft repeated survivor lore. Spoilers if youve never seen it, but I’d say Caramoan was epic.

            1. Francesca voted out first AGAIN
            2. Reynolds is born.
            3. “Hold up Bro” and the 3 Amigos
            4. Stealth R Us 2.0
            5. Tribe named Enil Edam after Malcoms mother
            6. Dawn loses teeth
            7. Brenda gives up chance to meet fam for the group and is voted out
            8. Erik tragically medivaced right before the end
            9. Nerd hero wins unanimously.

          • Maritimer

There’s hype for Caramoan? It had a few excellent TCs, but even the episodes they were in were not good

          • Kemper Boyd

Some people love it cough Emma cough.

          • Roswulf

It’s probably too early to say, and I have admittedly skipped a LOT of bad seasons, but put me down for Kaoh Rong as most overrated. Terrible overarching story, huge focus on people who are actively hateful to watch, and lots of the rest of the time is just watching people needlessly suffer.

          • Maritimer

I am surprised by the amount of love KR gets over on r/Survivor because to me it’s a mediocre at best season. You say terrible overarching story, I would struggle to even identify an overarching story. I guess the story of why Aubry lost, which makes it incredibly dissatifying

          • Roswulf

Someone’s forgetting such key moments as that time Michel(l?)e said “We are merging now.”

          • corndogshuffle

            Something or other, bro.

          • Maritimer

Because of a month long trip away and my own stupidity, I watched the Debbie boot on spoiled on the winner. You have no idea how confused I was. By the time I got to Final Four, I was certain I had misread that Michele won because it made no sense story-wise

          • Assistant Dragon Slayer

I’ll accept an incoherent winner’s story if I have a non-winner to root for, and I’ll accept mediocre strategy if the game is at least exciting. Which is to say I probably rate Panama and KR higher than you two do.

          • Roswulf

I actually have a VERY different response to Panama and KR.

In Panama, the bland nothing winner was a surrogate for all that was right and good and named Cirie in the season.

In KR, the bland nothing winner was the surrogate for everything that was terrible and awful and cruel in the season.

That matters a lot to me.

Also Cirie>>>>Aubrey, and Scott+Jason<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Everyone on Panama.

          • Maritimer

My big problem with Panama is the lack of rootable characters other than Cirie. Aras and Danielle are fine, but bland. And his winners story is at least kind of there.
As Roswulf said, KR has a lot of bad people that I did not enjoy watching, even if it had more rootable interests in Aubry and Cydney (and I would argue Julia)

I struggle without a winner’s story though because it all feels like there is something missing

          • Assistant Dragon Slayer

Did you ever see Daniel Kahnemann’s TED Talk? An otherwise good season with a bad or inexplicable winner is like hearing an orchestra play wonderfully, but then clam the last note. The natural impulse is to think that it ruined the entire experience, but logically that can’t possibly be true.

          • Maritimer

I have not but I see your point. The tough thing with Survivor is knowing the results colours rewatches, etc and when you’re looking back years at a first watch, its hard to remember how you felt. I’m pretty sure I enjoyed Panama the first time through but looking back it seems less good.
The good thing is we have few seasons with bad or inexplicable winners so its a hard thesis to prove. I would say the only bad winner is Bob and the only inexplicable one is Michele (per the show anyways). Natalie is arguable but Samoa does a much better job of why Russell lost

          • DrVanNostrand

You can make sense of it in retrospect, but it made little sense at the time.

          • Max_Jets

Weird, I think Kaoh Rong has my favorite storytelling in Survivor in that they really gave something for every contestant, including the pre-mergers. Tai’s story in particular is just beautiful, with his inner conflict throughout the game and his transformation from “too big of a threat to get to the end” to zero vote goat – possibly the most interesting, dynamic character we’ve seen on the show. That also ties into what we feels like a bit of a good vs evil storyline going through it and you’ve also got the interesting downfalls of Debbie/Nick/Jason/Scot.

          • Maritimer

I will say that Tai’s story is fantastic. Nick has a good downfall. My issue with the other three is that I didn’t like them to the point where I just wanted them off my TV, which makes me less invested in their downfall story. Though the idol “no” moment is very good. But it comes back to that even if those are all good stories, the season (to me anyways) lacks the narrative to tie them together. There is that good v evil, but in the end bland wins, and that severely hurts the season.
I did like the trend it hopefully started of more fleshed out characters, which seemed to be mostly followed in MvGx

          • Max_Jets

Understandable, I wouldn’t want to hang out with Debbie or Scot but I loved watching them and enjoyed rooting against Scot. I like Jason and Michele though so that’s partly where we differ too. Tai’s story is the main thing I think of when I remember Kaoh Rong (along with my love for Aubry and Cydney) so it feels complete to me, but I get how it doesn’t come together if you’re more focused on the winner’s story.

          • Other Scott

I think for me it’s somewhere between China, Tocantins and Panama.

China: The gameplay is very straightforward. The only interesting thing is Todd vs Amanda at the end.

Panama: La Mina is a dull tribe and them getting picked off isn’t great television. I also think there’s no good individual stories for players other than Cirie. The Final 3 just doesn’t do it for me compared to what I’m looking for Final 3 stories.

Tocantins: I don’t know, I just don’t think there’s a lot there. Coach is fun, the Tyson boot is a great episode. But JT really just cruises and there’s no one who even really puts up the slightest bit of a fight.

          • corndogshuffle

Tocantins/China are two of my top four seasons haha. I can see why someone wouldn’t love them but I do.

My most overrated season has to be Micronesia, I’ve always bagged on Micronesia. Depending on how seriously you take the opinions of r/survivor, I’d say Gabon is my most overrated season. It’s crazy how much love Gabon gets over there.

          • Other Scott

No Corndog, going by r/survivor, Nicaragua is by far the most overrated season, as it is considered not terrible.

(I will take my upvotes where I can get them)

          • corndogshuffle

They both get an absurd amount of love. I have Gabon ranked worse than Nicaragua otherwise I would have mentioned it instead.

          • Assistant Dragon Slayer

Gabon just edges past Nicaragua in my ranking because at least it’s funny.

          • Roswulf

            Upvoted for shamelessness.

          • Diego Armando

I will admit to having a soft spot for Gabon while acknowledging that it is not a good season of Survivor in the slightest.

          • Black Dynamite

I’m with you on Panama. I find it to be below average television that Cirie nearly single handedly elevates.

          • Diego Armando

I refer to Panama as Survivor at its most generic. It has all the ingredients you need for a standard season of Survivor: Breakout Star Who Will Go Onto Greatness In A Future Season!, Challenge Guy!, Crazy People!, A Disappointing And Inoffensive Winner!, Pagonging!, Medevac!, Idol That Doesn’t Get Used! All this and barely more.

          • I actually find the storytelling and editing in Panama to be amongst the show’s best. They drop some lovely clues throughout the season as to what is going on. They also build up Aras and Danielle pretty well as the finalists (also Aras is totally non inoffensive…He is actually awful at points).

          • Maritimer

Panama for certain in my opinion. Its basically a near-Matsing then a Pagonging and other than a couple standouts, its a pretty dull cast. I tried to rewatch it last year, and I struggled then quit.

China I found good the first time (was spoiled on the winner) hard on rewatch.

Tocantins I have watched 3 times and could do so again.

          • DrVanNostrand

There’s a lot of clutter at the bottom. Worlds Apart is bad, but I’m not sure it’s worse than Nicaragua, Jesus Island, or Gabon. It’s really hard for a season to crack my bottom 3.

          • I’ll suggest this: pick a day that you guys want to discuss it. Our post schedule during the season is pretty predictable. You can talk about Micronesia in every fantasy standings post, every weekly podcast post, every predictions post, etc. (Meaning you pick one of those, not all.)

          • Well, we can’t talk about Micronesia every single chance? Damn it, John.

          • StormofCuteness

Prediction posts seem like they get the least regular traffic so count this as one vote towards Tuesdays.

          • I am a little reticient to do that because I don’t want to be hijacking perfectly good PRP content for my own schemes just yet. But, it could be a last resort for sure.

        • Kemper Boyd

Super Confusing and difficult to follow weekly twitter DM?

    • gouis

Man, y’all have time to do a rewatch during a season? Damn addicts.

      • @purpletally:disqus was watching three Survivor seasons at once during MvGX IIRC.

        • PurpleTally

And that’s why I don’t remember the names of anyone in any of those seasons. I’m not even good with people from MvGx apart from Adam and my fantasy team.

          • Do you remember what seasons you were watching at the time?

          • PurpleTally

HvV I remember people from. But we were also watching 21-26 while I was trying to finish up the earlier seasons. I couldn’t name most of the people from Guatemala.

      • Kemper Boyd

If I can find it on torrent (which is unlikely) I can watch it on the way to work. And I’m 95% sure @disqus_GpYJ355BVM:disqus hasn’t watched it at all.

    • Assistant Dragon Slayer

Aw man, I wish I had known about this. I’m literally on the last 15 minutes of the reunion show and boy do I have some hot takes.

BTW, I’m at Lil Sebastian in my incredibly slow binge-watch of Parks and Rec.

      • PurpleTally

I’m at the Recall Election in mine. I’m currently marathoning approximately 8 shows in addition to Survivor and watching other seasons on top of what Barbara and I watch.

        • Assistant Dragon Slayer

I’m looking forward to the arrival of Jennifer Barkley (I watched random episodes of Parks & Rec when it was on the air, but now I’m watching them in order). I watch Transparent and have a kinda big crush on Rabbi Raquel, who as a character is pretty much the polar opposite of Jennifer Barkley.

          • Black Dynamite

Kathryn Hahn is amazing and I enjoy her in pretty much every project she is involved in, even when the project itself is lacking.

      • Max_Jets

        Nervous for your hot takes!

        • Assistant Dragon Slayer

lol. Hot takes as in gameplay and quality of the season, not as in “so-and-so is sooo hot”. (although….. Alexis is kinda underrated…)

          • Max_Jets

That’s what scares me! I’m never scared of attractive takes

          • Super duper fan

He really looks the best with short hair.

          • Kemper Boyd

no goatee too. Him and Malc have horrid facial hair.

          • Assistant Dragon Slayer

I always thought Ozzy got a little more hate than he deserved. Then I watched the Micronesia FTC.

          • Purple Rock Emma

Ozzy is definitely most physically attractive in Micronesia.

          • Black Dynamite

Mirconesia is most attractive Ozzy in my mind too. Here’s how I would rank it.

            1. Mirconesia
            2. Cook Islands
            3. South Pacific
            4. Game Changers (but that can move up)

          • Purple Rock Emma

            This feels correct.

          • Kemper Boyd

            seconded.

          • I would flip flop Micronesia and Cook Islands, but the bottom two is correct.

          • Roswulf

I’m getting my hopes up for the full “ERIC WAS MAKING A GOOD MOVE!” hot take.

          • Assistant Dragon Slayer

NOPE! Although I think the BWB isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, Eric’s boot is peak BWB.

          • Purple Rock Emma

WHOA WHOA WHOA HOLD ON A SECOND, FELLA.

          • Kemper Boyd

The women of PRP will not abide this luke warm take from @AssistantDragonSlayer:disqus

          • Assistant Dragon Slayer

At the risk of poking the hornet’s nest a second time, I think you run into the same problem with assessing the BWB as you do with Boston Rob in Redemption Island: where does the greatness end and the unforgivable stupidity of the opposition begin? I agree that the Eric boot is a masterpiece, but watching the season relatively unspoiled, it was striking a) how late in the season it was before the BWB swung into action, and b) how fragile it was right at the point James was medevaced (I think it might have broken up if James had stayed).

          • Purple Rock Emma

You don’t think James is clearly voted out in the same spot as the medevac? He was the split vote option the vote prior and didn’t even really have Erik on his side.

          • Assistant Dragon Slayer

I think at a minimum, Amanda tells both Parvati and James about the idol. What happens after that is anybody’s guess, but it makes it way harder for the BWB to stick together.

          • Purple Rock Emma

But she’s likely not targeted at that point if James is still there. She’s close with James, but it’s not like she hadn’t voted him out before.

          • Assistant Dragon Slayer

But then what? Even if they vote out James, Amanda then has an idol that everybody knows about. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to be a BWB truther or anything, it’s just that I expected them to be a bigger presence over the course of the season (the work they do in the 10 days or so of their existence is spectacular, though), and they seemed very fragile around the time Amanda was on Exile.

          • Max_Jets

I think that’s true for most alliances though. The three amigos springs to mind, but something like the Aubry/Cydney duo from Kaoh Rong is one of my favorite alliances even though It’s only big for a couple episodes. BWB just has a name, a couple memorable moves, and a few beloved players players. I can imagine how big it might seem after all the hype, but the hype is well earned anyways.

          • Assistant Dragon Slayer

Fair. It’s impressive what a team of equals they are compared to most alliances, and how they each have a specific skill, like they’re in a heist movie.

          • Kemper Boyd

she only goes looking for the idol because James is gone. She likely finds the idol only tells Parv and uses it in the same spot.

          • Kemper Boyd

I thought about this as I was falling asleep because yes I am a nerd. I do not believe this is true. James had nothing he could do, he cannot win this era of individual immunities especially with Erik there. He’s have been the next boot medivac or not. Then it plays out exactly as it does.

          • Assistant Dragon Slayer

Yeah, I suppose you’re right. But then you have Amanda with an idol, and that changes the course of the season. In any case, I think the whole attempt to get rid of Amanda made me think the BWB was not very unified, but the fact that nobody was particularly upset afterward (Amanda for the attempted blindside, Cirie for being left out of the loop) should indicate otherwise.

          • Kemper Boyd

The Amanda attempt made sense. Look it’s final 6, Erik is immune you have Nat and Alexis as a solid 2, they bring Erik in on getting rid of Amanda (the only real threat to beat him in challenges) and Cirie isn’t going to rocks. So it’s 4-2. Had Erik not won immunity he goes at 6 and the BWB makes final 5 in tact. Then it’s Cirie’s choice between two strong pairs.

          • Maritimer

I have always had this weird feeling/theory, based partially on Cirie’s reaction but mostly on nothing, that Cirie was brought into the loop but they decided she should vote for Amanda anyways to keep up appearances to Natalie and/or Erik

          • Assistant Dragon Slayer

That seems like a stretch, but the attempted Amanda blindside is strangely fallout-free considering that they’re at each other’s throats after the next tribal (although as Kemper Boyd points out, trying to get rid of Amanda is almost a force move at that point).

          • Maritimer

Yeah, I know. I don’t really believe it myself because voting Amanda was the logical move for Cirie to do. But you’d think it would have sewn more distrust.

          • purplerockandy

            Let the man speak.

          • Kemper Boyd

Yes, as always, we’ll shut up and let the man speak.

          • purplerockandy

            Finally, men catch a break.

          • Black Dynamite

Damn, that is a hot take. BWB 4 life.

          • corndogshuffle

I mean their job wasn’t exactly difficult.

BWB – “Hey Erik you’re a moron, give us your Immunity please?”

            Erik – “OK”

          • Black Dynamite

I feel like you are completely underselling the exchange. There was masterful manipulation of that poor kid the entire episode, starting with the reward challenge. He went from not considering doing the immunity plan to actually following through with it after everyone in BWB executing their role in the plan perfectly.

          • Kemper Boyd

It was like 2 days of pressure. Amanda and Natalie pushing his buttons from each side and Cirie selling the “this is what it will take”. It’s a masterpiece. Sure the mark is easy but the play is superb.

          • Black Dynamite

So great. I will talk about it more when I finally finish working on my top 10 episodes write up, but one thing I noted is that all episode is that the way Erik thinks actually makes game sense but then someone from BWB would talk him to another idea but make it sound reasonable and not far fetched that I understand why Erik would do things like send Parvati instead of Natalie to Exile. A lot of times we get wild pleas in Survivor but everything thing here was so calm and measured. I love it.

          • Ms_Woozah

I think it’s underrated how crucial Natalie was in that whole exchange. I want her to return someday.

          • Super duper fan

I love her, it sucks that she was really underedited that season, but with what she gave us she was fantastic, and like she basically is the female Shane in terms of her 2nd chance-She was an alternative for HvV, she was considered for Caramoan, she was considered for BvW, she had a chance of being one of the people we could vote for Cambodia, and she was considered for GC. Always SO close, but she can’t make it. I hope that she will finally get her 2nd chance and won’t be burned out from all of that.

          • corndogshuffle

I under sold the exchange for effect, I admit that. But I still don’t think too highly about this move. Any reasonably intelligent person should have been able to see what was happening very quickly. I don’t usually try to play couch quarterback with Survivor players but there is just no way anyone should have been fooled as easily as Erik was.

          • Assistant Dragon Slayer

The unforgivable part really is that he just watched Ozzy and Jason go home with an idol. IIRC, Erik even mentions this when he gives the idol away.

          • Roswulf

The trick was, they said the “GIVE US YOUR IMMUNITY” part loud and the “you’re a moron” part quiet.

Though in all seriousness, the whole sequence was brilliant manipulation.

          • Hornacek

            “Hey Erik, join the navy!”

            “Sure, why not?”

          • corndogshuffle

Uh oh, are you about to jump on board the “anti-Micronesia” hype train with me and @purplerockandy:disqus?

          • Assistant Dragon Slayer

NOPE! I loved it, and it’s one of the few pantheon seasons that lived up to the hype (I felt just a bit disappointed immediately after watching Palau, Cook Islands, and HvV; I probably need to watch them again free of expectations). I just think some things are misremembered. If you just can’t abide Fans vs. Favorites format, I get that, but it works way better in Micronesia than in Caramoan. All you can ask is for the fans to be entertaining during the tribe portion (check) and get slaughtered in an entertaining fashion during the post-merge (check check check).

    • Kemper Boyd

      I AM IN. FINALLLLLY.

    • StormofCuteness

Before I commit, I need to check if it’s still on Amazon Prime. If it is, then this sounds like fun!

      • Black Dynamite

        It is.

        • StormofCuteness

          See reply to Barbara. *grin*

      • It is.

        • StormofCuteness

I was just coming to say this!!! How does this work? Do we watch weekly and then discuss? *I may be overly excited*

  • SpicyMayoJaySimpson

I’m not excited to see JT has overtaken Cirie in this poll. Not just for fantasy reasons, but I think since Nuku can put Aubry, Sandra, and Varner on the puzzle and Malcolm, JT, and Michaela on the course, there’s a significant chance that Nuku doesn’t place last. So JT would be immune, while Cirie doesn’t seem to have any enthusiastic allies. (In case you can’t tell, I’m still salty about the readers losing the top spot with two eps left last season).

So +1 for me for guessing Tony last week, and I’m guessing Cirie this week. SDT was my jokey winner pick last week, but the real winner pick will come midseason.

    • Kemper Boyd

I’ve said down thread I’m convinced Nuku don’t go to Tribal because we got shown the preview of JT looking for the idol.

      • SpicyMayoJaySimpson

Missed that. I think there’s more evidence for that kind of misdirection based on the shadows during that whole scene. It looks like it takes place a few hours before sunset, and I can’t imagine any reason for the whole tribe to go fishing right before tribal. So if takes place right after the swap and not the challenge, then JT isn’t scrambling right before tribal.

        • Kemper Boyd

It looks way too strong a squad to be coming 3rd, even with Varner and Sandra it just looks like a good team.

          • SpicyMayoJaySimpson

And yet as we’re writing this, JT is still leading Cirie in the poll. It’s like people don’t even skip straight to the comments around here.

          • Kemper Boyd

I voted FFGCSDT cos I have no idea and a girl can hope.

          • SpicyMayoJaySimpson

If you exclude the members of Nuku, I don’t know if there’s a combination of six players where FFGCANTMSDT is the most bootable. Which means that if she goes, this will shape up to be a fantastic and fascinating episode.

          • jersey_luck

I feel like this discussion has been had before and I believe that every time anyone has said this tribe is too strong to come in third they manage to lose the most.

          • Kemper Boyd

            Fair point.

  • Assistant Dragon Slayer

@purplerockjohn:disqus, I watched the first episode of Naked Attraction last night. I think an emergency podcast episode would not be an overreaction.

    • Kemper Boyd

HEY, I GET CREDIT FOR THIS! Also it’s fucking crazy right? Imagine being me and turning over about 5 minutes into the second half and just seeing 3 penises and 3 vaginas in closeup with no context. I ended up watching the first half on +1.

      • No exaggeration, I have since gotten at least 4 friends to watch it. But I took all the credit for it since they don’t know who you are. (Well, one does. I told him it was from you.)

        • Kemper Boyd

          Franquesca has watched? Cool, cool.

          • Yup!

          • Kemper Boyd

I like to imagine your friend is really Francesca and you are all pretending she is a man.

          • As if I wouldn’t be bragging about being friends with Franny.

I did beat her in Words With Friends repeatedly, though. So I can brag about that.

    • StormofCuteness

I think the only way I can watch this is to do so illegally thru something like Put Locker or whatever and probably give a virus to my laptop…and still, I can tell my curiousity will not be satisfied until I do.

      • There are other methods.

        • StormofCuteness

Help me, Obiwan, you’re my only hope!

          • I’ve heard from various sources that you should try:
            1. Daily Motion (beware of lots of fakes there)
            2. Channel 4’s site
            3. A word that rhymes with “poor rents”

          • StormofCuteness

I will go check now. #3 scares me so, err, that’s unlikely.

          • StormofCuteness

Well, I gave in and watched via unseemly means, and holy cats, it’s both cringeworthy and startling and hard to watch but impossible to look away. Also, why are Brits so much more able to do this than I think Americans would be? Also, also this is the exact opposite of how I determine who I’m attracted to so I find it fascinating in a “eek” kind of way.

          • Kemper Boyd

the whole concept of picking someone without “distractions” like clothes or conversation is the worst. The literal worst.

          • Oh, for sure. But I couldn’t stop watching!

          • StormofCuteness

Agreed, but I did find it refreshing (only saw first episode) to have women who were comfortable with their own bodies and embracing the differences between others. I definitely saw far more diversity than I’ve seen in US dating shows. I wish there was more of that in our media.

          • They start from the bottom and work their way up! I think that actually helps with the fascination, because I don’t think most people would evaluate body before face.

Also, there are absolutely Americans that would gladly do this. The issue is more that we have people that would riot if they tried to produce such a show here.

          • Kemper Boyd

            Late night cable…

          • Eh, maybe Cinemax. If they wanted to recapture their “Skinemax” glory days.

          • Kemper Boyd

I am sure there are a lot of 12 year olds bashing one out to Naked Attraction.

          • My gosh, “bashing one out” is such a violent image.

          • Assistant Dragon Slayer

It’s been a very long time since I was a 12yo, but I would think the detached/amused “I can’t believe they green-lit this show either” tone would ruin things in that regard.

BTW, it’s that tone that the American version would completely fail to capture. The American version (if it existed, which it wouldn’t) would either be over-the-top leering or try to be unironically arousing.

          • Kemper Boyd

Maybe just pausing on naked people will be enough.

          • StormofCuteness

I definitely want nothing to do with evaluating humans this way especially for dating purposes!

Hrm, in my insanely lengthy dating life (30 years), I found most Americans pretty darn insecure about their bodies and only some who were even ok with sleeping naked. So I guess that’s where I was coming from. I know there are always fame whores, but would the normal bodied do it? I hope so, but I’m not convinced.

          • Assistant Dragon Slayer

They’re literally people who are comfortable in their own skin.

          • StormofCuteness

Apparently that’s actually a thing other people can do!

    • What can you even say about it in a podcast? It’s insane! “Can we talk about the elephant in the room?”

      • Assistant Dragon Slayer

Do they get stopped on the street by fans wanting selfies? Do they put this on their resumes, or just hope HR at the company they’re interviewing with is lazy? Would it actually help someone get hired? Why is it so shocking to see them fully clothed at the end? Why don’t the men suffer from frightened turtle syndrome like I’m absolutely sure I would? Why is the fig leaf (so to speak) of evolutionary biology they throw in so funny?

        • I think that’s partly why they only use first names on the show- they’re trying to avoid having this stuff pop up on a Google search. It also helps that they’ve had people in professions where it honestly won’t matter much; people aren’t concerned that their club DJ has been on TV naked.

          • Assistant Dragon Slayer

I have to report for jury duty today. I think I’ll put episode 2 on my iPad as backup in case my Princess Leia costume doesn’t work.

    • pufflehuff

And this is the Channel that are taking over Bake Off…no wonder Mary Berry fled.

      • GBBO is about to get a whole lot sexier.

        • pufflehuff

Oh yeah, they’re going to get all Baked Attraction about it. When, actually nothing could be sexier than Tamal and his sugar syringe.

          • I’m more of a Ruby fan myself, but I see what you’re getting at.

          • pufflehuff

Nothing could be sexier than Ruby and her ‘oh, this is going to be rubbish, what I’m Star Baker, me!??’ routine…well…

Though actually I like Ruby – she writes for the Guardian and hates Paul Hollywood, so there’s that.

          • This is Baked Attraction we’re talking here- no time for pesky trivialities like Ruby’s personality.

          • pufflehuff

You’re right. Baked Attraction will be 100% showstoppers, soggy bottoms, and hot cross buns…who will rise to the occasion?

  • Head Architect Sylvia

I’d like to kindly request everyone to vote Debbie so your reverse voodoo can protect her again this week. Much appreciated.

    • prettyboyprobst

I wanted to do just that, but seeing Hali’s name right next to her reminded me of how worried I am that she could be the only Mana on a tribe that loses next episode, so I voted for Hali.

Since then, I saw she’s rumored to be on a tribe with Ozzy, so she should be fine as long as he has anything to do with it. Not sure how Debbie fits into that new tribe, though.

      • Head Architect Sylvia

Oh really? She should 100% be safe then because Ozzy simply wouldn’t allow an attractive young woman to be voted out this early. I mean, come on, he still needs to find someone to snuggle with.

        • prettyboyprobst

          Exactly.

    • OTT but love your user name and avatar!

      • corndogshuffle

This is one of the best user names to come through in a long time. I give it a grade of “doubleplusgood”.

  • prettyboyprobst

@purplerockandy:disqus : On the podcast, I predicted Troy thinking that I
saw him hunting the goat in the previews. I’ve seen it again now, and
    it’s clearly JT.

The focus in the preview is on JT chasing the goat, but you can actually see that it is Malcolm who (just about) catches it in the background (while JT stumbles in the center of the shot).

I guess you won’t change your pick again, but maybe that helps you to feel bad about it until tomorrow?

    • Ms. Sweaterfan

Is it just me, or does it seem awfully early in the season for them to be contemplating killing and eating an adorable goat?
I mean, 6 days of eating nothing but fruit and rice would make anyone hungry, but still :/
Then again, I get cranky if I don’t eat something every 2-3 hours, and I’ve totally ordered goat at an Indian restaurant, so maybe I’m talking myself out of judging them already…

      • Kemper Boyd

Eat it when you can catch it dude. If you eat goat that day it’s a pound you don’t lose early on.

      • Hornacek

They’ve probably gone through all of that perishable food they grabbed during the marooning, so fresh goat is looking good right about now.

      • prettyboyprobst

From a survival standpoint Kemper is absolutely right, but on Survivor there may be other good reasons not to kill that cute little goat and I believe they will release it in the end.

Otoh, if Malcolm was looking for a way to rid himself of the hordes of twelve year old girls that are swooning over him, butchering that baby goat should prove to be an effective move.

        • purplerockandy

The issue is that most of that goat is gonna go to waste. They have no way of storing meat or properly preparing it.

          • Underreported story: Goats reek on the farm or in the show barn (Personal background: I raise and show sheep and sometimes goats are placed in the sheep barn). Anyway, I cannot imagine any of them, even JT, knowing how to skin a goat because a goat is a different than a beef cow.

          • Ms. Sweaterfan

And would they even have a knife sharp enough to skin and butcher a goat?
My father in law is a butcher in a small rural community, and that stuff is hard work. I can’t imagine anyone out there is skilled/brave enough to pull it off. Even JT as a cattle rancher has probably never butchered even a mid-sized mammal on his own. I mean, obviously desperate times call for desperate measures, but I guess my point is I can’t believe they’re ~that~ desperate yet.

          • purplerockandy

I imagine JT has done some hunting and maybe prepped a deer after killing it. I have no idea how well that translates.

          • Ms. Sweaterfan

Yeah good call. My FIL routinely skins/butchers deer that others have hunted, but it’s entirely possible that good ol’ boys do the whole thing themselves.

          • I have participated in a deer skinning and prepping before but that was with the help of at least three people who knew what they were doing. I don’t think Aubry or Sandra have ever skinned a goat before.

          • purplerockandy

Sandra has skinned plenty of goats.

          • I mean actual goats, not people-like goats.

          • prettyboyprobst

They could do it TWD-style, one leg at a time.

Otherwise you’re right, at some point they would be in danger of eating TAINTED MEAT!

      • Assistant Dragon Slayer

I know these people didn’t see MvGX, but didn’t they see Fiji? Wild goats are more valuable as a source of excuses to hunt for idols than as a source of calories.

    • StormofCuteness

If it’s female, far more valuable yo keep it for milk every day (used by millions the world over).

      • corndogshuffle

For some reason I thought we were still talking about chickens and I was *very* confused.

        • StormofCuteness

Hahaha, well, always keep the female, I say!

      • prettyboyprobst

I think it’s a little one, but I guess they could keep it safe and audible to attract the mother goat.

At least that’s how I imagine nature to be working, I wonder if that method would get the farmgirl @disqus_GpYJ355BVM:disqus stamp of approval?

        • It all depends on the maternal instinct of the mother goat. I know with sheep, you have some mother ewes who go BALLISTIC if they can hear but not see their lambs and others who won’t even clean them up after they are born, which ensures that those lambs have a 95 percent chance of death.

It should also be pointed out that these are probably mountain goats, which means that they are going to be smaller anyway to be able to climb.

          • prettyboyprobst

Didn’t we see a group of three goats in the premiere, one slightly bigger than the two others?

If I saw that right, than I’m going to assess that we are dealing with a loving mother goat here and rate the chances of success for plan “hide yo mama” as good to groat.

          • First of all, hate the wordplay.
Secondly, it might work but it is also really brutal. PETA would have a field day. Wasn’t there a rule leak that said that they couldn’t hunt for animals against after the REDATED situation in AO?

          • purplerockandy

There are often restrictions on what they can and can’t hunt. Often because those animals might be some nearby farmers’.

          • That’s it. Do we know how deserted this Fijian island is?

          • purplerockandy

            I do not.

          • prettyboyprobst

Well, that just means that you don’t recognize groatness!

            (yeah, it’s really bad.)

And if they did it so that they would have milk instead of killing the offspring, couldn’t that justify it even in the eyes of PETA? (that is, of course, if they are allowed to hunt in the first place)

          • I think PETA is against milking as well, but I am not 100 percent sure.

  • Crappy

No way Cirie is going next. She got too much focus on Nuku and I don’t think it wad just so we can have Cirie time or to establish her boot in the coming episode. She is being geared up for another underdog run IMO.
I don’t think JT goes either, too much focus on him in the preview.

I just read Adam and Holmes’ power ranking article and I agree with Adam’s take on Caleb’s edit in first 2 episodes. Think he is next,

    • I don’t know that plot armor always works in Survivor.

    • I wonder if Adam is spoiled. I hope he isn’t, but it wouldn’t shock me at all.

  • pufflehuff

I’m a bit worried for Tai – the chicken scene might be to set up a short-term story. Though, as it looks from the preview that he’s separated from his loves, maybe the real characters in danger are the chickens.

I suspect Monica might outlive Gloria here, looks like her story has some legs…

    • BadPlayer91

I feel as though Monica will make it all the way to day 39, but then get killed and eaten for doing nothing…

      • pufflehuff

This is Monica’s time: why do you have to be so mean???

        • BadPlayer91

She had every chance to break free, but she was under Ty’s, excuse me, Tai’s control for far too long. Now she pays the price.

          • pufflehuff

Well, I’m still miffed that Kimmi wasn’t the first Survivor to have a chicken named in her honor, so rooting for Monica’s downfall now.

      • She’s a neat hen!

    • BadPlayer91
      • pufflehuff

This Monica isn’t going to get overshadowed by some vacuous, packaged rubbish: this season is Monica’s time to shine!

        • corndogshuffle

It’s kinda sad knowing that in all likelihood Monica has already been turned into chicken wings.

          • pufflehuff

You never know – maybe in a game-changing twist, the chickens get to form their own Outkast style team and compete for their freedom. When Monica scoffs more balut that FFSDT, Monica is free to change her destiny and flies away from all the men naming and controlling her…I’m sure CBS would get behind this.

          • corndogshuffle

Chickens taking over Survivor would be a real… game changer.

  • Pro Tip: Don’t look at comments on the Survivor Facebook page because you might get spoiled (I don’t know if they are legitimate spoilers, but I am a little concerned). Unfortunately, I am now locking my Pick 4 team in place (even though I did want to switch) just for legitimacy purposes.

    • purplerockandy

Pro Tip: Don’t look at comments on the Survivor Facebook page. Full stop.

      • I don’t usually but I got a little frustrated that they were trying to pass off the “Missy breaks her leg” challenge as one from BvW. I had to see if I was the only one to notice and I saw two potential spoilers there. It sucks.

    • Super duper fan

I don’t go there, but with these returning player seasons, we HAVE to be extra careful with spoilers (for example I did see a few days before the premiere that Ciera is a first-boot in some places, I was going to pick her since February for a first-boot regardless, but you may never kkow what’s legitimate or not).

      • Right. I just wasn’t thinking about it and it happened.

      • Yeah, Ciera getting votes for first boot here doesn’t alarm me, because she was a consensus staff pick without any spoilers (I don’t know that any of us even saw castaway pics after they got back, which was an issue after Cambodia).

        • Kemper Boyd

She made perfect sense to me as a first boot because she’s got the reputation and she’s not great in challenges. Also she isn’t a social as Sandra or Varner who were the other two options on her tribe.

          • Aubry and Tony were also viable first boot options, but they are decent to good at challenges.

          • Kemper Boyd

The preview press on her wasn’t positive from other players.

          • Similarly, if Malcolm wins this season I’m not going to assume everyone here was spoiled; this is as good of a situation as Malcolm could conceivably get.

          • Kemper Boyd

            yep.

    • corndogshuffle

This is why I only look at comment sections I know I can trust. Here is safe. Even reddit is fairly safe. I got spoiled on one of the big twists in The Force Awakens (while reading comments on a damn ESPN post) and ever since then I’ve been super paranoid. Like “make Tony blush” levels of paranoid.

      • Maritimer

I find reddit fairly safe too, but I avoid speculation and edgic posts on returnee seasons, because sometimes people pass off spoilers as speculation or analysis. You don’t notice until later but when you realize, it kind of sucks

        • Kemper Boyd

I had HvV spoiled for me by Sucks and I still didn’t think it was true until they announced the winner.

          • Maritimer

I was spoiled on it by the CBS message board of all places. But I also didn’t believe it until the end.

          • Kemper Boyd

I remember telling the one person I knew who watched Survivor (who doesn’t anymore and laughed at me when our mutual friend told her I wrote something for this website) and she was like “I heard that, no way though”.

          • Maritimer

It was my first season after a post-Guatemala hiatus and I was convinced it was either Parvati or Jerri. Not believing it helped my enjoyment of the season in that sense, but also kind of took the surprise element of the win away. By FTC I at least partially was considering that it was true

          • Diego Armando

I knew the final three but not the winner. I had already figured Sandra or Parvati was winning going into the finale anyway. I did figure out that Russell would betray Danielle when she posted on her preseason bio that the contestant she respected the least was Russell.

        • corndogshuffle

Yeah it sucks that spoilers get passed off as speculation from some corners of the internet. Especially in returning player seasons it seems to be way worse.

          • Kemper Boyd

            Sucks is terrible for this

      • Diego Armando

Some asshole spoiled a bunch of Game of Thrones deaths for me in a comment section of a Cracked article that had nothing to do with the show. Some people are just spiteful bastards.

    • Ms. Sweaterfan

Yeah, the more mainstream sites tend to invite unfettered spoilers, in my experience :/ That’s why I originally stopped reading Dalton Ross’s reviews and moved on to AV Club (which thankfully led me here!)

    • Diego Armando

I avoid spoilers for the most part. The only time I may have found spoilers live was a comment of someone posting the actual final 3 of HvV before the finale aired. I wasn’t too bummed out because A. I had no idea if it was legitimate or just a guess and that was a very likely prediction & B. Sandra was still there.

  • gouis

OK so even just last season you’d be lucky if these predictions pages got 100 comments. They averaged like around 50 just a year ago.

This one might hit 400 before the episode starts.

    • purplerockandy

Just wait until someone stumbles on this year’s commenter stats.

      • gouis

I will lose all sense of self-importance as I become just yet another face in the commenter crowd.

      • Don’t encourage anyone to do that. It will make you go into a downward spiral…or so I have been told.

        • StormofCuteness

Have I missed any updates on watching Micronesia? I feel like I must have.
